The Titaness Tethys, is a primordial deity the mother who oversees the chief rivers of the world such as the Nile, the Alpheus, the Maeander, she is worshupped by the Oceanids. Daughter of Uranus and Gaia is an aquatic sea goddess. Tethys is both sister and wife of Oceanus.

Before the war against the Titans, Tethys raised Hera as her step-child.

Tethys is the grandmother of the sea-nymph Thetis, the wife of Peleus and mother of Achilles.
