Cooling Presence. Enemies within 30 feet cannot gain Advantage from rage, frenzy or reckless effects. Allies within the aura are immune to Frightened.

Fashion from Clay (Recharge 5–6). Obatala creates one Huge or smaller clay guardian in an empty space within 60 feet. It uses Stone Golem statistics but is Celestial, acts immediately after Obatala and vanishes after 1 hour.
Return to True Form (1/Day). Up to six creatures within 120 feet end all unwilling transformations, petrification and curses that alter body or identity. Hostile effects created by another deity require an opposed divine check.
Reactions
Cool the Blow. When a creature within 60 feet would take damage, Obatala reduces that damage by 40 and the attacker cannot make another attack until the start of its next turn unless it succeeds on a DC 34 Wisdom save.
Legendary Actions

Use Obatala Tonight
The Clay Child
A child-shaped figure appears beside a shrine after heavy rain. At sunset it begins breathing, but refuses every name offered to it.
The White Cloth Is Stained
A ruler’s ceremonial white cloth develops a dark mark that no washing removes. The stain spreads whenever the ruler gives an unjust order.
The Quiet Court
Violence becomes impossible inside an old compound: blades will not cut and angry voices fall to whispers. The protection is failing at the walls.
The Borrowed Face
A shapeshifter hides among royal attendants. Obatala’s priests insist the real crime is not the disguise but the identity stolen to make it convincing.
Mythic Identity
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s account of Yoruba origins records traditions in which Obatala is the divine artist who shapes human beings from clay. Other versions give a larger role to Oduduwa in establishing land and political order. The traditions do not need to be forced into one single chronology; their differences are part of the religious landscape.
Obatala’s white colour is equally important. The Met connects white beads with purity and the quality of coolness attributed to Obatala. African Arts describes him as the “king of the white cloth,” a wise and compassionate patriarch whose regalia mirrors royal authority.
His divine temperament is therefore not passivity. Coolness is controlled power. A hot-tempered ruler who cannot master himself may possess soldiers and wealth but lack the quality Obatala represents.
Creation and Human Form
Campaign stories involving Obatala should treat creation as responsibility. To shape a body is to incur obligations toward the life that inhabits it. Obatala opposes forced transformations, mutilating curses and magic that treats living bodies as disposable raw material.
Traditions connecting Obatala with varied human bodies also make his cult a natural refuge for people whose bodies differ from ordinary expectations. His protection rests on sacred authorship and dignity, not on the claim that every body should be made identical.
What Is Obatala Doing Right Now?
Obatala is watching rulers, artificers and sorcerers who have acquired the power to reshape life faster than their wisdom has grown. He intervenes when created beings are denied personhood, when magical alteration becomes punishment, and when political authority confuses splendour with moral legitimacy.
His signs are often quiet: anger cooling before blood is shed, a broken clay vessel remaining whole long enough to deliver its contents, a child surviving an impossible birth, or white cloth refusing to accept the stain of a corrupt ceremony.
Regional Effects
- Cool Heads. Within 6 miles, creatures gain the edition-appropriate bonus against magical rage, frenzy and fear.
- Clay Remembers Form. Fresh clay records the true outline of creatures that touch it, ignoring mundane disguise and minor illusion.
- White Cloth Bears Witness. Consecrated white cloth discolours when used to conceal deliberate cruelty, corruption or forced transformation.
- Water Settles. Muddy drinking water clears after one minute if it is not poisoned or cursed; contamination remains visibly distinct rather than hidden.
- Shape Resists Violation. Within 1 mile, involuntary polymorph, petrification and body-altering curses are easier to resist and diagnose.
Domain Spells and Divine Gifts
Creation, Protection, Healing, Law and Knowledge fit Obatala’s clerics best. Suitable spells include Calm Emotions, Lesser Restoration, Stone Shape, Remove Curse, Greater Restoration, Heal, True Seeing, Mass Heal and Shapechange.
Relics
The White Staff
A staff that can restore a creature to its natural form or shape inert clay into a temporary servant.
The Cloth That Cannot Lie
A square of consecrated white cloth that stains when used to conceal deliberate cruelty and clears only after restitution begins.
