- Benefit: You get a +4 bonus on initiative checks.
- Special: A fighter may select Improved Initiative as one of his fighter bonus feats.
What Improved Initiative Changes
Improved Initiative adds +4 to initiative checks. It does not give an extra turn or change the number of actions a character receives; it simply improves the chance of acting earlier when combat order is determined.
Why Acting Earlier Matters
- Front-line characters can reach important positions before enemies move.
- Spellcasters can place defensive or controlling magic before opponents act.
- Rogues, scouts and ranged characters gain a better chance to exploit the opening moments of an encounter.
Improved Initiative Example
A character with a +2 Dexterity modifier normally rolls initiative at +2. With Improved Initiative, the same character rolls at +6. If the d20 result is 11, the final initiative result is 17 instead of 13.
The feat has no prerequisite, making it easy to add to many different character builds. See the Feats index for other combat options.
