Appearance: Arachnadia’s form is a grotesque fusion of drow and spider. Her upper body exudes an otherworldly allure—pale, flawless skin, sharp features, and eyes that pierce the darkness. But from her waist down, she transforms into a monstrous arachnid. Her abdomen swells into a bulbous, obsidian spider body, segmented and bristling with wiry hairs. Eight long, spindly legs extend from her thorax, each ending in wickedly curved claws. Her entire lower half is a single, nightmarish spider, its chitinous exoskeleton reflecting the abyssal shadows.

Behavior: Arachnadia’s demeanor oscillates between regal grace and primal savagery. She weaves intricate webs of deceit, ensnaring mortals and immortals alike. Cunning and unpredictable, she delights in orchestrating treachery within her own pantheon and among her followers. Her wrath is swift and merciless, especially toward those who defy her or threaten her dominion.

Habitat: The Demonweb Pits, her realm in the Abyss, is a twisted expanse of sticky silk, suspended bridges, and bottomless chasms. Here, she spins her cosmic web, connecting worlds and ensnaring souls.

Modus Operandi: Arachnadia manipulates her priestesses, whispering venomous guidance into their minds. She thrives on chaos, sowing discord among the drow and using their ambition to further her own dark designs. Her cultists perform gruesome rituals, sacrificing victims to feed her insatiable hunger for power.

Motivation: Arachnadia seeks to ascend beyond her current status, to weave her web across the planes, ensnaring gods and mortals alike. Her ultimate goal is to subvert order, replacing it with her chaotic reign. She hungers for worship, craving the fear and reverence that sustain her existence.

Divine Awareness. Arachnadia knows if she hears a lie.

Innate Spellcasting. Arachnadia’s spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 26). She can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

  • At will: web, darkness, faerie fire, confusion, hallucinatory terrain
  • 3/day each: plane shift, teleport, divine word, blade barrier, insect plague
  • 1/day each: wish, earthquake, symbol

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Arachnadia fails a saving throw, she can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Weapons. Arachnadia’s weapon attacks are magical.

Spider Climb. Arachnadia can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Web Walker. She ignores movement restrictions caused by webbing.

Actions

Multiattack. She can use her Frightful Presence. She then makes three attacks: one with her bite and two with her clawed hands.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (2d10 + 8) piercing damage plus 21 (6d6) poison damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d6 + 8) slashing damage.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of Arachnadia’s choice that is within 120 feet of her and aware of her must succeed on a DC 26 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute.

Ensnaring Strike (Recharge 5-6). Arachnadia launches a web at a point she can see within 60 feet of her. Each creature in a 20-foot radius must make a DC 26 Dexterity saving throw or be restrained by webbing. As an action, the restrained creature can make a DC 26 Strength check, bursting the webbing on a success.

Legendary Actions

Arachnadia can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Arachnadia regains spent legendary actions at the start of her turn.

Move. Arachnadia moves up to her speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Teleport. Arachnadia magically teleports, along with any equipment she is wearing or carrying, up to 120 feet to an unoccupied space she can see.

Cast a Spell (Costs 2 Actions). Arachnadia casts a spell from her list of innate spells.

Summon Spiders (Costs 3 Actions). Arachnadia summons 2d4 giant spiders or 1d2 driders. The summoned creatures appear in unoccupied spaces within 60 feet of her, act as her allies, and can’t summon other creatures. They remain for 1 hour, until Arachnadia dies, or until she dismisses them as a bonus action.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Arachnadia can take a lair action to cause one of the following effects:

  • Arachnadia casts web in her lair, creating thick, sticky spiderwebs in a 60-foot radius centered on a point she can see within 120 feet of her.
  • Arachnadia opens a portal to the Demonweb Pits, causing fiendish spiders to pour into the area around her.
  • Arachnadia causes shadows to coalesce into tangible forms, creating shadowy duplicates of herself that can attack her enemies.

Regional Effects

The region containing Arachnadia’s lair is warped by her magic, creating one or more of the following effects:

  • Shadows within 1 mile of the lair move on their own, and dark whispers fill the air, audible only to creatures of Arachnadia’s choosing.
  • Water sources within 1 mile of the lair become thick with webs and are difficult terrain for creatures other than Arachnadia and her allies.
  • Creatures within 1 mile of the lair occasionally glimpse fleeting visions of the Demonweb Pits, instilling fear and unease.

If Arachnadia dies, these effects fade over the course of 1d10 days.

Demon Queen of Spiders, woman, tarantula, girl, Arachnadia

Arachnadia is a very powerful and feared demoness. Her Abyssal lairs are collectively and rightfully known as the Demonweb pits. She usually collectively and rightfully known as the Demonweb pits. She usually takes the form of a large, 9-foot long black widow spider, though she enjoys appearing as an exquisitely beautiful female drow. Little is known about her aims, and only the fact that the drow worship of Arachnadia causes her to assume form on the Material Plane permits compilation of any substantial information whatsoever.

Obedience

To regain his full complement of spells, a thaumaturge dedicated to Arachnadia must weave a delicate spider web from a length of string. He then wraps the web around a living insect, entwining the bug in a cocoon of thread. The thaumaturge crushes the cocoon in his fingers, smearing the resulting ooze upon his weapon of choice.

Arachne’s web. J. G. Vibert, from Parisian art and artists, by Henry Bacon, Boston,  1883.

Arachnadia attacks using her bite and spell-like abilities in combat. If she is confronted in drow form she will use her spells, before assuming her true form; that of a giant black widow spider.

Spell-Like Abilities:

These abilities are as the spells cast by a 20th-level sorcerer (save DC 25 + spell level).

Spells: Arachnadia casts arcane spells as a 20th-level sorcerer (save DC 25 + spell level) and divine spells as a 20th-level cleric (save DC 23 + spell level). She has access to the domains of Chaos, Evil, Destruction, and Trickery.

Web (Ex): Arachnadia can shoot webs from her abdomen at a range of 30 feet. This attack resembles the web spell with the following exceptions: the webs are permanent, nonmagical, and cannot be dispelled. The DC for evading or breaking free from the webs is 45, and there is a 75% chance that the webbing won’t burn if any sort of fire is applied to it (check each round).

In addition, the webs are coated with an acidic poison that deals 1d6 points of damage per round of contact.

  • Poison (Ex): Bite, Fortitude save (DC 45); initial damage 3d6 temporary Constitution, secondary damage 3d6 temporary Constitution.
  • Summon Demons (Sp): Three times per day Arachnadia can automatically summon 1d4 vrocks or hezrous, or 1d3 glabrezus.
  • Summon Spiders (Sp): Three times per day Arachnadia can automatically summon 2d4 Medium-size, 1d6 Large, 1d4 Huge spiders.
  • Susceptibility to Holy Water (Ex): Arachnadia is especially vulnerable to holy water, taking 3d6 points of damage from a direct hit, and 3 points of damage from a splash.
  • Demon Qualities (Ex): Immune to poison and electricity; cold, fire, and acid resistance 20
  • Telepathy (Su): Arachnadia can communicate with any creature within 100 feet that has a language.
