feat Dodge

Dodge (General)

This material is Open Game Content, and is licensed for public use under the terms of the Open Game License v1.0a.

Prerequisite: Dexterity 13.

Benefit: During your action, you designate an opponent and receive a +1 dodge bonus to Armor Class against attacks from that opponent. You can select a new opponent on any action.

A condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also makes you lose dodge bonuses. Also, dodge bonuses stack with each other, unlike most other types of bonuses.

Special: A fighter may select Dodge as one of his fighter bonus feats.

How Dodge Works

Dodge protects against one designated opponent at a time. During your action, choose an opponent; you gain a +1 dodge bonus to Armor Class against attacks from that creature. You can designate a different opponent on a later action as the battlefield changes.

Dodge Example

A fighter is threatened by an ogre and two goblins. The fighter designates the ogre and gains +1 Armor Class against the ogre’s attacks, but not against attacks made by the goblins. On the fighter’s next action, a goblin can be designated instead if that becomes the greater threat.

Dodge Bonus Rules

  • Dodge bonuses can stack with other dodge bonuses.
  • If a condition causes the character to lose the Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, dodge bonuses are also lost.
  • The feat’s bonus applies only against the currently designated opponent.

Mobility builds on Dodge for characters who want stronger protection while moving through threatened areas. See the Feats index for the wider defensive feat chain.
