Same Deity, Different Cultural Aspect

Jupiter is the Roman aspect of Zeus: one divine being expressed through Roman state cult, oath, treaty and Capitoline sovereignty. The Zeus page presents the Hellenic aspect. Both pages remain separate and self-canonical because they describe different cults and cultural presentations, not different cosmic beings.

Divine Mechanics

Campaign Divine Tier 40 describes Jupiter’s setting-scale power and is not an SRD challenge rating. The 5.5e statistics are a deliberate epic extension and may exceed standard published CR and ability-score limits.

Traits

Legendary Resistance (6/Day). If Jupiter fails a saving throw, the deity can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. Jupiter has Advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects.

Divine Spellcasting

Jupiter has access to every spell granted by the deity’s portfolio domains in the edition being used: Law · War · Protection · Knowledge. These domain spells are always prepared or available to the deity and do not replace the deity’s normal actions.

Actions

Multiattack. Jupiter makes three Thunderbolt attacks.

Thunderbolt. Attack: +23 to hit. Hit: 39 (4d12 + 13) lightning plus 22 (4d10) thunder.

Capitoline Storm (Recharge 5–6). Creatures in the affected area make a DC 31 saving throw, taking 88 (16d10) lightning and thunder on a failed save or half as much on a success.

Legendary Actions

  • Move. Move up to half Speed without provoking Opportunity Attacks.
  • Divine Strike. Make one Thunderbolt attack.
  • Command the Field (Costs 2). One ally within 60 feet moves up to half Speed and may take one appropriate action as a Reaction.

Jupiter — Pathfinder 1e

Campaign epic extension; true deities are not normally given standard PF1e stat blocks.

CR benchmark 30 · hp about 760 · AC about 48 · Primary attack +41 · Primary DC 35 · Good saves +31 · Poor save +26.

Divine expression. Translate Jupiter’s 5.5e traits into supernatural abilities rather than treating CR 30 as a ceiling on the god’s setting authority. This block is an explicit campaign extension, not an official PF1e deity statistic.

Spell-Like Abilities. At will—edition-equivalent spells from Command, Zone of Truth, Call Lightning, Lightning Bolt, Control Weather, Earthquake, Storm of Vengeance and Gate; 1/day—miracle. Use caster level 30 for the combat benchmark.

Divine Rank 19 · AC about 78 before situational modifiers · DR 30/epic · SR 51.

Salient Divine Abilities. Choose abilities that express sky, thunder, lightning, oaths, treaties, law, victory and civic sovereignty, with the normal number determined by divine rank and status.

Statistics

Challenge benchmark 46 · Ability scores use the deity’s epic 5.5e profile as the conversion baseline rather than a score-30 ceiling. Divine Rank remains the primary measure of cosmic authority.

Domain Access

Jupiter can use every spell-like ability granted by the deity’s portfolio domains at the caster level determined by Divine Rank.

Jupiter in Roman Religion

The Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus on the Capitoline stood at the centre of Roman public religion and received triumphing generals. Jupiter Feretrius and treaty-oath traditions reinforce a specifically Roman concern with sworn public obligation. Greek Zeus traditions matter where Romans themselves made the identification, but they do not replace Roman cult evidence.

What Is Jupiter Doing Right Now?

Rulers across Europe and the Mediterranean still claim Roman titles, law and inheritance. Jupiter weighs those claims by oath, succession and public duty rather than by grandeur alone. Thunder over a coronation, an eagle settling on the wrong standard or lightning striking a treaty table without burning it can turn politics into divine judgement.

Worship in the Campaign Present

His cult survives through civic sanctuaries, legal fraternities, military oath traditions and Roman-descended families. Shrines invoke open sky, oak, eagle signs and oath-stones even where no great temple survives.

Domains, Spells and Divine Gifts

Jupiter’s clergy favour Tempest, Order, War, Protection and Knowledge. Suitable spells include Command, Zone of Truth, Call Lightning, Lightning Bolt, Control Weather, Earthquake, Storm of Vengeance and Gate.

Gift: Oath Under Open Sky

Bind a willing spoken agreement until the next dawn; each signatory knows if another knowingly breaks it.

Gift: Thunder’s Answer

As a Reaction, gain resistance to one instance of lightning or thunder damage and sound a peal audible for a mile.

Relics

The Capitoline Thunderbolt

A divine weapon that can strike a sworn oathbreaker beneath the same open sky when Jupiter knows the target’s true name.

The Eagle Sceptre

A rod that exposes false claims of office and reveals the obligations genuinely attached to a title.

The Treaty Stone Splits

A peace sworn before Jupiter cracks in two although neither side admits breach.

The Eagle Chooses No One

At a coronation the sacred eagle circles every claimant and lands on the empty throne.

Thunder Over the Archive

Lightning repeatedly strikes a sealed Roman law archive without burning it.

Divine Estate and Regional Effects

Where Jupiter’s presence is strong, a major sanctuary can project the following effects across roughly six miles. A small shrine normally manifests only one effect within a much smaller area. Unless another divine power contests them, the effects fade over 1d10 days after the sanctuary is abandoned, desecrated or deliberately renounces the deity’s protection.

Oaths Carry

A sworn agreement made beneath open sky cannot be deliberately misquoted within the region; every signatory hears its own exact words when the oath is invoked.

The Storm Judges

Natural storms avoid consecrated assemblies unless Jupiter wills otherwise. A creature that knowingly breaks a public oath may hear thunder even beneath a clear sky.

Eagles Mark Authority

False standards, forged seals and usurped insignia attract circling eagles or sudden lightning-static, giving Advantage on checks to expose fraudulent public authority.

Deep Dive

Continue through the Roman Pantheon, Juno, Minerva, Mars, Janus, Zeus 4. Follow the cult into Rome and wider Italy, or use the Cleric and Cleric Domains pages for player-facing worship.

Historical Sources and Rules Compatibility

Historical cult material is separated from campaign invention. The 5.5e statistics are an original epic extension using SRD-compatible terminology; CR and ability scores may exceed standard published ceilings where the deity’s scale requires it. Pathfinder 1e deity statistics are explicitly a campaign epic extension. D&D 3.5e uses divine-rank structure for greater deity.
