Terminus is the Roman god who protects boundaries and the stones that mark them. His cult is unusually concrete: the god is present in the boundary marker itself, and Terminalia makes neighbouring landholders jointly responsible for honouring that line.

Divine Mechanics

Campaign Divine Tier 27 describes Terminus’s setting-scale power. The 5.5e rules-facing form is an original epic extension at CR 32 with PB +9.

Traits

Legendary Resistance (5/Day). If Terminus fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

Immovable Boundary. Terminus cannot be forcibly moved or teleported against his will.

Know the Line. Terminus instantly knows whether a visible boundary marker has been moved from an older agreed position.

Divine Spellcasting

Terminus has access to every spell granted by the deity’s portfolio domains in the edition being used: Protection · Law · Community · Earth. Those spells are always prepared or available to the deity.

Actions

Multiattack. Terminus makes three Boundary Staff attacks.

Boundary Staff. Attack: +19 to hit, reach 10 ft. Hit: 27 (4d8 + 9) bludgeoning plus 14 (4d6) force damage.

You Shall Not Cross (Recharge 5–6). Terminus creates a 60-foot line within 120 feet for 1 minute. Enemies crossing it for the first time on a turn make a DC 27 Charisma save or take 45 (10d8) force damage and have Speed reduced to 0 for that turn.

Bonus Actions

Set the Stone. A point on the ground within 60 feet becomes anchored until the start of Terminus’s next turn; creatures there cannot be forcibly moved.

Reactions

Return the Trespasser. When a hostile creature crosses a marked boundary within 60 feet, Terminus moves it 15 feet back to the side it came from unless it succeeds on a DC 27 Strength save.

Legendary Actions

  • Move. Move up to half Speed.
  • Divine Strike. Make one Boundary Staff attack.
  • Fix the Line (Costs 2). One 20-foot line within 60 feet becomes impassable to teleportation until the end of Terminus’s next turn.

Terminus in Roman Religion

Terminalia was celebrated on 23 February in honour of Terminus. Adjacent property owners jointly garlanded the boundary marker and made offerings at the line separating their land.

The sacred object could be as simple as a stone or post. That simplicity is the point: Terminus makes an agreed limit religiously consequential.

What Is Terminus Doing Right Now?

Land surveys, inheritance disputes and expanding estates make Terminus unusually active. Moving one stone a few feet can change taxes, water rights or who controls a road.

His cult cares less about who is richer than whether the line was agreed, witnessed and then secretly altered.

Worship in the Campaign Present

Farmers, surveyors, landholders and magistrates responsible for territorial records invoke Terminus.

Neighbours who dislike one another may still meet at the same stone for Terminalia because the god protects the boundary precisely by making both sides acknowledge it.

Domains, Spells and Divine Gifts

Terminus’s clergy favour Order, Protection, Earth and Law themes. Suitable spells include Alarm, Zone of Truth, Arcane Lock, Magic Circle, Stone Shape, Wall of Stone and Forbiddance.

Gift: True Boundary

The devotee can tell whether a visible boundary marker has been moved within the last year.

Gift: Stand Your Ground

Once per long rest, the devotee becomes immune to forced movement for 1 minute.

Relics

The Unmoved Stone

No mundane creature can shift this boundary marker after two lawful neighbours agree to its placement.

The Surveyor’s Cord

When stretched between two accepted markers it reveals any hidden bend, substitution or magical displacement in the boundary.

Relationships

Silvanus concerns the rural land around a boundary; Quirinus civic membership and territory; Jupiter the authority that can ratify public limits. Terminus is the limit itself.

Use Terminus Tonight

The Stone Walked

A boundary marker appears ten yards inside a neighbouring estate with no sign of digging.

The Road Has Two Owners

Two charters are genuine and place the same road on opposite sides of a border.

Terminalia Without Neighbours

Offerings appear at a forgotten stone even though both farms have been abandoned for generations.

Divine Estate and Regional Effects

Where Terminus’s presence is strong, a major sanctuary can project the following effects across roughly six miles. A small shrine normally manifests only one effect in a smaller area. Unless another divine power contests them, the effects fade over 1d10 days after the sanctuary is abandoned or desecrated.

Boundary Stones Hold

A consecrated boundary marker cannot be moved by ordinary force while both parties still recognise the boundary it records.

Trespass Is Visible

A creature knowingly crossing a protected boundary without permission leaves a faint line of dust or light on its footwear for one hour.

Maps Agree

Maps, deeds and surveys produced in good faith converge on the same recognised boundary unless a genuine legal dispute exists.
