Worship in the Present World

Nüwa is invoked when ordinary repair is no longer enough: after flood, earthquake, magical catastrophe, planar rupture, dynastic collapse or any disaster that makes people fear the structure of the world itself has failed. Her worshippers include builders, healers, midwives, rulers responsible for reconstruction and communities that have survived destruction together.

Her rites emphasise repair that preserves life. Rebuilding a breached wall, restoring a poisoned well, reconciling a household after catastrophe or closing a tear between worlds can all become acts aligned with Nüwa. Her priests are expected to know the difference between restoring what was lost and recreating the conditions that caused the disaster.

Divine Mechanics

Campaign Divine Tier 37 represents Nüwa’s creator-scale authority. These are campaign deity statistics rather than official published rules for the goddess.

Traits

Legendary Resistance (6/Day). If Nüwa fails a saving throw, she can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. Nüwa has Advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects.

Creator’s Touch. Nonmagical objects Nüwa touches can be reshaped without tools, provided the new form uses the same mass of material. She can restore a destroyed mundane structure of Huge size or smaller as an action.

Mender of the Heavens. Teleportation circles, planar gates and extradimensional breaches within 120 feet cannot be forcibly widened while Nüwa is conscious. She knows the location of every active planar breach within 1 mile.

Divine Spellcasting

Nüwa uses Wisdom for divine spellcasting (spell save DC 30, +22 to hit). Her strongest portfolio links are Creation, Protection, Community and Healing. Signature spells include mending, greater restoration, wall of stone, heal, heroes’ feast, earthquake, regenerate, mass heal and gate.

Actions

Multiattack. Nüwa makes three Five-Coloured Stone attacks.

Five-Coloured Stone. Ranged Spell Attack: +22 to hit, range 180 ft. Hit: 37 (5d10 + 10) force or radiant damage. If the target is a construct or object, Nüwa can instead restore 37 Hit Points to it.

Mend the World (Recharge 5–6). Nüwa chooses a point within 180 feet. In a 60-foot-radius sphere, hostile creatures make a DC 30 Constitution save, taking 72 (16d8) force damage on a failure or half on a success, while allies regain 45 Hit Points. One collapsed structure, magical breach or damaged terrain feature in the area is simultaneously stabilised.

Seal the Breach (Recharge 6). One portal, rift, summoned gateway or extradimensional entrance within 300 feet is suppressed for 1 minute. A deity or artifact controlling the breach can contest this effect with a DC 30 ability check using its primary casting ability.

Legendary Actions

  • Shape Earth. Nüwa alters a 10-foot cube of nonmagical earth or stone within 60 feet.
  • Five-Coloured Stone. Nüwa makes one Five-Coloured Stone attack.
  • Restore Life (Costs 2). One creature within 60 feet regains 35 Hit Points and ends one poisoned, petrified or restrained condition.

Divine Powers, Domains and Sacred Objects

Creation

Creation governs shaping, making and restoring what should exist.

Protection

Protection reflects Nüwa’s defence of humanity and the boundaries that keep mortal life possible.

Community

Community expresses the survival and rebuilding of people after catastrophe.

Healing

Healing governs bodily restoration and the preservation of life.

The Five-Coloured Stones

The stones with which Nüwa repairs the heavens are not treated as a sack of ordinary magic items. A true fragment of that material is a deity-scale relic capable of sealing planar wounds, stabilising impossible structures or restoring boundaries damaged by powers beyond mortal magic.

Behaviour, Relationships and Divine Politics

Nüwa’s instinct is to preserve life and repair damage, but she is not committed to restoring every old order exactly as it was. A broken kingdom may need rebuilding; a cruel institution destroyed in the same catastrophe may not. Her priests therefore argue constantly over the difference between restoration and regression.

Fuxi is her most important counterpart in later tradition and art. Pangu represents a separate creation tradition rather than a simple ancestor in one fixed genealogy. The Jade Emperor governs a celestial order that depends on the world Nüwa preserves but does not supersede her primordial authority.

Where Worship Is Found

Nüwa’s cult belongs especially to communities concerned with human origins, family continuity, fertility, protection and recovery after disaster. Temples and local traditions vary, but her mythic authority is strongest anywhere the survival of a people or the repair of the world becomes a sacred obligation.

Builders, healers and rulers may invoke her even where no permanent temple exists. A newly rebuilt town can become a shrine by action before it becomes one by architecture.

Omens, Cults and Adventure Use

Signs of Favour

Cracked stone seals itself around survivors; coloured mineral veins appear beside a breach; clay figures turn toward hidden danger.

Signs of Warning

Fresh repairs split along old fault lines; roofs remain intact while the sky above them appears cracked; healed wounds reopen in the same pattern.

Repair at a Cost

A planar tear can be sealed, but only by closing the road used by a community’s ancestral spirits.

Creation Dispute

A new people born from divine clay insist they are not replacements for those who died, and Nüwa’s priests agree.

Adventure Hooks

  • Five stones of impossible colour appear after an earthquake, each pointing toward a different tear in the world.
  • A village of clay figures awakens at night and begins rebuilding a shrine no living resident remembers.
  • A celestial breach is widening above a mountain, but sealing it requires a substance held by a rival divine court.
  • An ancient image of Fuxi and Nüwa has been separated into two relics, and the land between them is becoming unstable.

Mythological and Historical Context

Tang-dynasty painting of Nüwa and Fuxi as intertwined creator and civilising powers
Nüwa and Fuxi in Tang-dynasty funerary art, shown as paired cosmic powers.

Chinese traditions remember Nüwa both as a creator of humanity and as the divine power who repairs the damaged heavens. The familiar story of the five-coloured stones makes her unusual among creator figures because her defining act is not only making the world but saving it after catastrophe.

Han and later imagery frequently pairs Nüwa with Fuxi as entwined creator figures carrying instruments of measure. Their pairing developed across long periods and does not require every tradition to agree on a single relationship or genealogy.
