Puragaus (Immolation Devil)

Appearance: A Puragaus is a towering inferno of malevolent intent, its form wreathed in perpetual, searing flames. Standing over ten feet tall, its body is a mass of molten rock and fire, resembling a humanoid shape but with a nightmarish twist. Its skin, if it can be called that, is a cracked, blackened surface from which bright, orange-red flames seep through. Its eyes are blazing orbs of white-hot fire, and its mouth, when open, reveals a maw of consuming flame. Large, fiery wings spread from its back, their edges constantly shifting and flickering with intense heat.
Behavior: Immolation Devils are embodiments of destruction and chaos, reveling in the devastation they bring. They are often sadistic and cruel, taking pleasure in the agony and suffering of others. Intelligent and cunning, they delight in causing fear and despair, often toying with their victims before delivering a fiery end.
Habitat: These devils are most commonly found in the volcanic regions of the Nine Hells, especially in the plane of Phlegethos, where rivers of molten lava flow and the air is thick with ash and smoke. They thrive in these extreme environments, drawing power from the intense heat and fire that surrounds them.
Modus Operandi: In combat, a Puragaus is a devastating opponent. It employs a combination of brute strength and fiery magic, wielding flame-based spells to incinerate foes from a distance or engulf them in close quarters. Its mere presence can cause the temperature around it to rise drastically, and its touch can ignite anything flammable. Often, it will use its wings to create gusts of superheated air, fanning the flames of chaos and destruction.
Motivation: The Puragaus are driven by an insatiable desire to spread fire and destruction. Loyal to their infernal masters, they execute orders with a zeal that borders on fanaticism. Their ultimate goal is to bring about as much suffering and ruin as possible, fueling the eternal fires of the Nine Hells with the souls of the damned. They are also known to be ambitious, always seeking ways to increase their own power and status within the infernal hierarchy.

Burn Any creature taking fire damage from the devil must succeed on a DC 20 Dexterity save or catch on fire, taking 7 (2d6) fire damage at the beginning of its turn. It can extinguish the flames by using its action to make another save.
Devil’s Sight. Magical darkness doesn’t impede the devil’s darkvision.
Fire Shield Any creature hitting the devil in melee takes 9 (2d8) fire damage.
Hellfire A creature with immunity to fire damage takes half damage from the devil’s fire attacks.
Magic Resistance. The devil has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Multiattack. The devil makes four melee attacks: two with its claws, one with its wings and one with its gore. It can use Hurl Hellfire in place of any melee attack.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d8 + 7) slashing damage and 10 (3d6) fire damage.
Gore. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (4d6 + 7) piercing damage and 10 (3d6) fire damage.
Wings. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d6 + 7) bludgeoning damage and 10 (3d6) fire damage.
Hellfire Blast. Spell Attack: Dex DC 20 half, range 150 ft., 10 ft. radius. Hit: 28 (8d6) fire damage. If the area has flammable objects that aren’t being worn or carried, they also catch fire.
Puragaus (Immolation Devil)
Ash and embers encrust the smoldering humanoid frame of this imperious, dragon-winged devil.
Immolation devils are tyrant warlords and terrifying field generals among Hell’s legions. While many other greater devils manipulate and corrupt subtly and from afar, puragaus surround themselves with lesser diabolical minions, lead interplanar incursions, hold infernal redoubts upon mortal worlds, or strike against any who would defy the will of Hell.
Immolation devils stand just over 10 feet tall, with wingspans nearing 20 feet, and weigh 900 pounds.
