(Dinosaur) Buitreraptor, the Swift Shadow

Buitreraptor is a sleek, slender dinosaur roughly the size of a large dog, measuring about 4.5 to 5 feet from snout to tail. Its lightweight frame is covered in fine feathers, lending it a birdlike silhouette. It has a long, flexible neck and a narrow snout lined with numerous small, blade-like teeth lacking serrations. Its large eyes and agile limbs suggest exceptional speed and dexterity.


Behaviour:
Buitreraptor is an opportunistic hunter, relying on agility and sharp instincts rather than brute strength. It may hunt alone or in small packs, using swift hit-and-run tactics. Highly alert and intelligent, it watches for both prey and predators, making rapid decisions to either strike or flee.


Habitat:
This dinosaur dwells in arid or semi-arid scrublands with sparse vegetation and rocky outcrops, often near water sources. Its environment is harsh, favoring animals that can move quickly and efficiently through rough terrain.


Modus Operandi:
Buitreraptor stalks or ambushes small prey such as mammals, reptiles, and insects. It employs quick bursts of speed, agile leaps, and precise strikes, often aiming to incapacitate prey swiftly with its sharp teeth and claws. Its flexible neck and keen senses allow it to respond instantly to movement or threats.


Motivation:
Driven by survival and hunger, Buitreraptor prioritizes quick kills and evasion of larger predators. Its motivations are purely instinctual—feeding, avoiding danger, and maintaining territory or pack cohesion when in groups.

Special Abilities

  • Ambush Leap (Recharge 5–6). The Buitreraptor leaps at a target within 15 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone and take 9 (2d8) bludgeoning damage from the impact. On a successful save, the target takes half damage and isn’t knocked prone.
  • Swift Retreat. When the Buitreraptor drops below half its hit points, it can use its reaction to move up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Tactics

Buitreraptors rely on speed, cunning, and teamwork. They use their pack tactics to overwhelm prey, attacking from multiple angles. In combat, they open with an Ambush Leap to knock foes prone, then follow up with bites and claw strikes. If the battle turns against them, they use Swift Retreat to disengage quickly and reposition. Their climbing ability lets them strike from unexpected angles or escape danger by scaling walls and trees.
