Worship in the Present World

Fuxi is honoured wherever knowledge must become useful order. Diviners invoke him before reading signs; surveyors and builders call on him before measuring land; teachers and officials remember him as a culture hero who makes inherited knowledge usable; fishers and hunters preserve traditions that credit him with nets and techniques that transform observation into survival.

His sanctuaries are rarely loud places. They favour diagrams, cords, measured spaces, inscribed boards and ritual objects that turn relationships into visible form. A shrine to Fuxi feels like a place where the world is being read.

Divine Mechanics

Campaign Divine Tier 34 describes Fuxi’s setting-scale authority and is not an official SRD challenge rating. The rules below are campaign adaptations built for deity-scale play.

Traits

Legendary Resistance (5/Day). If Fuxi fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. Fuxi has Advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects.

Pattern Sight. Fuxi automatically knows whether a visible magical effect, structure, formation or ritual within 120 feet is stable, incomplete, concealed or deliberately falsified.

Perfect Measure. Fuxi cannot be surprised. Attack rolls against him cannot gain Advantage solely from invisibility, disguise or illusion.

Divine Spellcasting

Fuxi uses Intelligence for divine spellcasting (spell save DC 30, +22 to hit). His strongest linked portfolios are Knowledge, Law, Community and Artifice. Signature spells include detect magic, comprehend languages, divination, legend lore, true seeing, wall of force, foresight and gate.

Actions

Multiattack. Fuxi makes three Celestial Measure attacks.

Celestial Measure. Ranged Spell Attack: +22 to hit, range 180 ft. Hit: 34 (4d10 + 12) force damage, and Fuxi learns one damage resistance, immunity, vulnerability or magical defence possessed by the target.

Eight Trigrams Seal (Recharge 5–6). Fuxi places an eight-part sigil at a point within 180 feet. Creatures of his choice in a 40-foot-radius sphere make a DC 30 Intelligence save. On a failure, a creature takes 66 (12d10) force damage and is restrained until the end of its next turn; on a success it takes half damage and is not restrained.

Net of Ordered Heaven (Recharge 4–6). A lattice of luminous lines fills a 60-foot cube within 180 feet. Teleportation and planar travel into or out of the cube fail until the end of Fuxi’s next turn, and hostile creatures treat the area as difficult terrain.

Legendary Actions

  • Measure. Fuxi moves up to half his Speed and immediately detects one active magical effect within 60 feet.
  • Celestial Measure. Fuxi makes one Celestial Measure attack.
  • Read the Pattern (Costs 2). One creature Fuxi can see within 120 feet must reroll one successful attack roll, saving throw or ability check and use the new result.

Divine Powers, Domains and Sacred Objects

Knowledge

Knowledge governs divination, memory, interpretation and the recognition of hidden relationships.

Law

Law reflects the transformation of chaos into stable, repeatable order.

Community

Community represents the civilising side of Fuxi’s tradition: shared practices, social bonds and inherited custom.

Artifice

Artifice governs practical invention, measurement and the conversion of knowledge into tools.

The Eight Trigrams

The eight trigrams are Fuxi’s most famous symbolic association. They are not treated as one portable magic item; they are a divine grammar of change and relationship. In play, a Fuxi relic is more likely to be an ancient diagram, measured board, inscribed compass, net or instrument that reveals structure than a conventional weapon.

Behaviour, Relationships and Divine Politics

Fuxi is patient, analytical and intensely opposed to false pattern. He does not demand obedience for its own sake; he demands that claims of order actually fit the world they are meant to govern. A ruler who imposes elegant laws on realities those laws cannot describe is more likely to anger Fuxi than a rough local custom that genuinely works.

Nüwa is his defining counterpart in later art and myth. Their paired images often show complementary measuring instruments and intertwined forms. Pangu belongs to a different creation tradition, while the Jade Emperor represents the organised celestial government that comes after the oldest civilising and cosmological powers.

Where Worship Is Found

Fuxi is honoured in temples, ancestral and cultural traditions, divination schools and places associated with early civilisation. His cult is especially natural among scholars, diviners, surveyors, teachers, fishers and craftspeople who believe that skill begins with seeing the true pattern of a thing.

Beyond China, his influence travels through texts, diagrams, divination traditions and learned communities rather than through imperial missionary structures.

Omens, Cults and Adventure Use

Signs of Favour

Repeated numbers resolve into a useful sequence; a riverbank reveals a perfect diagram after floodwater falls; two contradictory maps suddenly agree.

Signs of Warning

Measurements refuse to match; a divination gives mutually impossible answers; straight roads bend back toward the same error.

False Order

A magistrate claims ancient authority for a new system whose hidden purpose is to make dissent mathematically impossible.

Broken Pattern

A celestial diagram copied for centuries has lost one line, and the missing stroke corresponds to a real mountain valley.

Adventure Hooks

  • An ancient trigram sequence begins changing each dawn and predicts disasters one day before they occur.
  • Two schools possess different halves of a diagram attributed to Fuxi, and joining them reveals a route rather than a prophecy.
  • A fishing village discovers that its oldest net forms a map when stretched across a temple floor.
  • A new imperial survey redraws every border correctly except one, where the land itself refuses to agree.

Mythological and Historical Context

Tang-dynasty painting of Fuxi and Nüwa as intertwined divine culture heroes
Fuxi and Nüwa in a Tang-dynasty funerary painting tradition. Their paired imagery expresses cosmic order, measurement and human civilisation.

Chinese traditions attribute many civilising arts to Fuxi, including nets, music, social institutions and forms of divination. Later tradition strongly associates him with the eight trigrams that underlie the Yijing tradition. These attributions developed across long periods and should be treated as layered cultural memory rather than one fixed biography.

Han and later art frequently pairs Fuxi with Nüwa. Museum collections preserve cosmological imagery in which the two appear with measuring tools or as intertwined creator figures, reinforcing their role as powers who make the cosmos and human life intelligible.
