Renewal Domain

Fresh growth representing the Renewal Domain

The Renewal Domain governs recovery, return, rebirth and the restoration of strength after loss. Two different published rules traditions use this name: an official D&D 3.5 domain from Player’s Guide to Faerûn and a distinct Pathfinder 1e-compatible third-party domain from The Book of Divine Magic.

Edition Applicability

D&D 3.5e: an official Renewal Domain appears in Player’s Guide to Faerûn. Pathfinder 1e: The Book of Divine Magic presents a separate third-party Renewal Domain using Pathfinder-style domain powers. D&D 5e/2014 and 5.5e/2024: no same-named official Cleric domain is presented here, so no artificial 5e tab has been added.

Renewal Domain — Pathfinder 1e

How the Renewal Domain Plays

Both versions reward a cleric who keeps companions functioning after exhaustion, injury or catastrophe, but they do so differently. The Pathfinder version is proactive and condition-focused from 1st level. The D&D 3.5 version gives the cleric a once-per-day survival trigger and a spell list built around removing afflictions, restoring what has been lost and returning life to a new form.

Renewal in the Divine World

Arawn and Inanna/Ishtar are associated with Renewal in the campaign’s deity network. Their connection to the domain should be read through their established portfolios rather than assuming every underworld or fertility deity automatically grants it.

Priests, Temples and Rites

Renewal priests serve places where life must begin again: communities after disaster, fields after blight, survivors after illness and people emerging from grief or defeat. Their rites focus on recovery and restoration rather than simply preventing harm in the first place.
