Skálholt in the south of Icelandis the location of Skálholtsskóli, the school founded to educate future skalds. Alongside the burser’s office, the library, and the school, there is extensive farming, a smithy, and a clerical retreat. Along with dormitories and quarters for teachers and servants, the town mades up a sizable gathering of structures.
Skálholt receives many visitors each year as hospitality is a branch of Skálholtsskóli’s work visitors can stay in its dormitories, cottages and inns. Many academic events and concerts are held in Skálholt. Foremost of these are the Summer Concerts in which the most prominent norse choirs and musicians are invited to perform.
A young teacher from Skálholt, Sigurd Stefánsson, is attempting to use the available documentary evidence to map all the sites of the Norse discoveries in the western Atlantic, including Vinland.
