The Human Torch (Johnny Storm) is a fictional character, a Marvel Comics superhero who is a member of the Fantastic Four. First appearing in Fantastic Four #1 (November 1961, he was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, although he was based on the Golden Age character of the same name, created by Carl Burgos.

Like the rest of the Fantastic Four, the Human Torch gained his powers on a spacecraft bombarded by cosmic rays. He can fly, control fire and safely surround himself in flames. “Flame on!”, which the Torch customarily shouts when activating his full-body flame effect, has become his catchphrase.

The youngest of the group, he is brash and thrill-seeking when compared to the more cautious Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman, his brother-in-law and sister, and the grumbling Thing.

In the early 1960s, he was the first member of the team cast in a series of solo adventures, published in Strange Tales. He is also a frequent partner of Spider-Man.

Fire Absorption

Storm can absorb any form of flame or heat directed at his body or in proximity to him. Johnny automatically absorbs any attack using fire that strikes his body, healing 1 point of WP/VP damage for every 10 he absorbs.

He can also choose to absorb any fire within 100 ft. of his position. This
will extinguish the fire and heal him for the same amount.

Fire Sheath

Storm can immolate his entire body, becoming a creature of pure flame. These flames deal 10d6 points of fire damage to any creature sharing his space or striking him with a natural weapon. Those striking him with manufactured weapons have their weapons take this damage. (This is enough to melt arrows and bullets before they can strike his body, protecting him from all but the most potent ranged projectile attacks). The Torch can choose to not inflict damage to those in his space as a free action.

His flaming body also allows him to make a slam attack that deals an additional 10d6 fire damage.

Flame Control

Storm can manipulate flame for a number of effects as a swift action He is able to shape it into various forms including cages and nets and twist his own blasts and control their point of impact (granting him a +10 to attack rolls with his flame blasts). Johnny has shown the ability to control any flame he can see.

Johnny has shown the ability to completely nullify the flame powers of others. As an attack action he can completely shut off any flame based powers or equipment within his line of sight. (Will save DC: 34 to avoid)

Flame Blast

Storm can project a jet of flame at his foes, dealing 15d6 fire damage as an attack action. This power has a range of 1000 feet and requires a ranged touch attack to connect.

As an intense action he can project this power in a 750 foot line or cone (Reflex DC 24 half), dealing 30d6 fire damage. Those who fail their saves catch on fire. Storm can maintain his power in this manner for 25 rounds, after which he must begin making Fortitude save every round (DC 10 +1 per round). Failure deals him 1d6 nonlethal damage and causes him to become fatigued.

As a full round action, Storm can release all his flame at once in explosion said to rival the heat from the surface of the sun. Storm deals 50d6 fire damage in a 500 ft. radius centered on himself (Reflex DC 34 half). After using his Nova Flame, Storm is considered fatigued and cannot generate flame again for 1 hour.

As a full round action, Storm can direct beams of Nova heat. He can generate a single beam up to 100 ft.

Heat Control

Storm has near absolute control of heat as well as his actual flame. He has shown a number of abilities related to this.

  • – Increase the temperature of an object to any point he wishes. He deals 2d6 fire damage on the first round of using his power in this manner. The damage increases by 2d6 for each round he concentrates until he inflicts 10d6 damage in the 5th round and the target bursts into flame. At this point he can increase the flame to that of his standard flame blast as a swift action.
  • – Decrease the temperature of an object nearly to absolute zero. He inflicts 2d4 cold damage on the first round of using his power in this manner. The damage increases by 2d4 for each round he concentrates until he inflicts 10d4 damage in the 5th round. The target suffers all effects of severe cold weather.

Infra-Vision

Storm can see heat sources, including those in the human body. He has demonstrated the ability to see his sister Sue when invisible. Johnny ignores invisibility effects on any object that has a heat source within it. This range extends up to that of his normal vision.
