Shadowcat (Katherine “Kitty” Pryde)
Katherine “Kitty” Pryde, also commonly known by the codename Shadowcat, is a Marvel Comics mutant superhero and a member of the X-Men. Created by writer Chris Claremont and artist/co-writer John Byrne, she first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #129 (Jan. 1980). Pryde also used the names Sprite and Ariel briefly.
Kitty Pryde possesses a “phasing” ability that allows her and those she is in contact with to pass through solid objects. This mutant power also disrupts any electrical fields she passes through, and lets her simulate levitation, literally letting her “walk on air”. She possesses a genius level IQ; is an expert with computers; and has a significant proficiency in martial arts.
At the time of her membership, Kitty was the youngest person ever to be invited to join the X-Men. During her early years, she is portrayed as a “kid sister” to many older members of the X-Men, filling the role of literary foil to the more established characters. However in the many years since her introduction, she has aged and matured, and has become a main character on her own in various ongoing comic books, miniseries, and cartoons.
Team affiliation
Kitty’s overbearing dad was impressed by Charles Xavier, so much so that he sent Kitty to the Xavier Institute for schooling. Ravaged by her parents’ divorce, she latched onto Storm as a surrogate mother figure. Wolverine trained her in hand-to-hand combat and martial arts; a good thing, since she needed both to take down the demon Ogun. She also formed a close friendship with the teen-aged version of Illyana Rasputin, AKA Magik. When the child version of Illyana was dying of the Legacy Virus, Kitty made frequent trips across the ocean to sit by Illyana’s sickbed.
Kitty’s overwhelming crush on Illyana’s older brother, Colossus, was often a driving motivational force in her early training. However, Colossus became more and more of a self-centered cad over the years; Kitty matured and moved on. After an infatuation with fellow nerd Alastaire Stuart didn’t pan out, Kitty hooked up with Peter Wisdom, ex of Black Air. She (along with her pet dragon, Lockheed) became a charter member of Excalibur when the X-Men were presumed killed battling the Adversary. She’s also been seen waltzing around the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier.
Powers
Kitty has the mutant ability to phase through solid objects. If said object happens to be electrical, it is completely disrupted by this process. A mishap with the Brood Queen left Kitty intangible for a considerable part of the Excalibur run. She also has a genius level IQ, an instinctive knowledge of computers and physics, and can discuss disincorporation theory with the Prowler even when the two of them are trying to strangle each other.

Graceful
Shadowcat is extremely graceful and agile. Before ever joining the X-Men she had extensive training as a dancer and gymnast.
- +6 bonus to Perform (dance) and Tumble
- If Kitty suffers an attack that allows a reflex save for half-effect, she suffers no damage if successful.
Martial Artist
Shadowcat is an excellent hand to hand combat. She has received training in aikido and karate from Wolverine. After the martial arts master Ogun imprinted his mind on hers she became a master of ninjistu and then received further training from Logan.
- Full Defense Bonus
- Unarmed Attack as a monk of her HD
- Bonus feats as a fighter of her HD
- Kitty retains her Dexterity bonus when flat-footed.
- Stunning Fist and Flurry of Blows as a monk of her HD
- +3d6 sneak attack
- +6 bonus to Balance, Climb, Hide, Jump, and Move Silently
- Kitty receives a +4 bonus to hit and damage with any melee weapon
Phasing
Shadowcat has the ability to ‘phase’ her body effectively making herself ethereal. While phased she is immune to physical attacks. She also cannot be harmed by energy or magic while phasing. Phasing for Kitty is a move action. Other beings that are able to phase such as the Red Ghost can interact with her as normal.
While phased Kitty is able to walk on air, effectively giving her flight at her normal movement speed.
If Kitty passes a part of herself through an electronic device or being she will disrupt it. The device must succeed at a Fort save (DC 19) or it is stunned for 2d4 rounds and suffers 1d4 temporary points of Intelligence and Wisdom damage if applicable. On a successful save all effects are halved.
While phased Kitty is harder to effect with psionic attacks. She receives +4 bonus to save vs. any psionic attacks and PR 22.
Possessions:
Shadowcat formerly used a single claw of Wolverine in hand-to-hand combat but has since discontinued its’ use. If she uses it again the claw counts as a +5 short sword in all respects. It also bypasses any armor-based DR or material hardness.
