Cyclops (Scott Summers) is a fictional character who exists in the Marvel Comics Universe, a superhero who is the field leader of the X-Men.

A mutant, Cyclops produces powerful “optic blasts” from his eyes, forcing him to wear specialized glasses at all times and a specialized visor in combat. His powers may have led to his inhibited, meticulous character. These same qualities, however, make him an ideal field leader for the X-Men and even teammates such as Wolverine, who has deemed him an ‘overgrown Boy Scout’, admire his Leadership skills.

The first student recruited by Charles Xavier, and one of the original five X-Men.

Powers

Cyclops powers emanate from his eyes. Although many may thing they are laser blasts, they are actually blasts of pure force, capable of killing a human being and even blasting through walls, steel, and more.

Scott’s energy comes from the sun. He is constantly soaking in solar energy and converting it into the energy that comes out of his eyes.

Scott uses a pair of ruby quartz sunglasses to prevent the force blasts from randomly shooting out as he lost the ability to control his optic blasts in a plane crash long ago. In combat, Cyclops uses a visor to control his blasts. He must push a button on the left or right sides to rotate the ruby quartz plates and allow the energy to come out.

Origin

As a boy, Scott Summers lost his parents in a tragic plane crash. His mother pushed Scott and his brother Alex (Havok) out of the plane with the only parachute. Unfortunately, the parachute caught on fire and Scott hit his head, putting him into a coma and caused brain damage. Alex was adopted and Scott spent months in a coma, only to be sent to an orphanage when he awoke.

Later, Scott’s mutant powers awoke to devastating effect. It would seem that the brain damage he suffered from the plane crash affected his ability to control his mutant powers. Scott unleashed a torrent of energy and blasted a crane apart and onto a crowd. A subsequent blast from Scott saved the crowd, but instead of praise, Scott suffered their anger and fear as they tried to pursue him. Scott fled and was eventually approached by Charles Xavier.

Charles asked Scott to become the first in his new school for gifted youngsters. Scott accepted and as Xavier has said, “You will be the nucleus’ around which I shall build the group!” Since that time, Scott has proven himself to be that nucleus and leader for the X-Men.

Martial Artist

Summers possesses black belts in akido and judo. He is able to hold his own in hand to hand combat with extremely skilled opponents such as Wolverine and even superhumans to a degree.

Optic Blast

Cyclops naturally absorbs solar energy and static electricity converting it into beams of pure force that emit from his eyes. Cyclops can fire his optic blast up to 750 ft., with range incraments of 150 ft. He inflict up to 30d6 force damage with a burst as a standard action. He can instead fire blasts as an attack action inflicting 10d6 force damage.

Cyclops can adjust his visor as a swift action, allowing him to fire his beam with a width as small as 2 inches or wide enough to affect a 100 foot cone in front of him. A wide beam allows a Reflex save (DC 25) for half damage, and deals damage as a burst or a blast, which ever Cyclops uses it as.

Spatial Awareness

Scott has a superhuman sense of spatial awareness and ability to work calculations in his head. This enables him to angle his optic blasts so be can bounce them at seemingly impossible angles to strike multiple targets or even fire around corners. If Cyclops has a solid, relatively smooth surface on which to skip an optic blast (such as a street or a concrete wall), and a target within 30 feet of that surface, Cyclops may ignore cover between the character and the target. However, Cyclops receives a -2 penalty on his attack roll, and the his attack deals -1 per die of damage. (10d6-10 for a burst, or 30d6-30 for a blast)

Tactical Genius

Scott is a natural leader and tactical genius widely believed to be second only to Captain America himself. By succeeding in a Knowledge-Tactics skill check (DC=10+total ECL of the adversaries+1 per team member) he is able to give those under his command a solid plan which grants a number of bonuses. The effects last for six hours.

Establishing a plan takes 1 hour minus 5 minutes for every point by which he exceeded the skill check DC. (Minimum 10 minutes) Scott must choose whether he will grant offensive or defensive bonuses before he attempts his skill check. Failure wastes 10 minutes and increases the DC by a cumulative 2 points.

Offensive Coherency

Cyclops grants his team a +5 bonus to attack, damage, and special attack
DCs.

Defensive Coherency

Cyclops grants his team a +10 bonus to armor class, saving throws, and skill checks.

As a swift action that provokes an attack of opportunity, he can boost those within 60 feet of him with a quick shout. This provides either a offensive bonus at +1 or defensive bonus at +2. This does not stack with offensive or defensive coherency and lasts 6 rounds. Scott may not use this ability on the same allies for 1d4 minutes after affecting them.

Drawbacks

Summers’ power is not under his control. His optic blasts continually emit from his eyes. He must always wear his ruby-quartz visor to stop this from occurring.

Possessions

Communicator, ruby-quartz visor, unstable molecule uniform.
