Brother Blood is the name of two fictional supervillains appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The first iteration, Sebastian Blood VIII, is a power hungry priest and the head of the Church of Blood, as well as the eighth person in the DC Universe to assume the mantle, after killing his father and taking the Brother Blood mantle from him.

This tradition had gone on for generations, dating back to the 13th century, when the first Brother Blood was born after obtaining Christ‘s prayer shawl and gaining superhuman abilities. As Brother Blood, Sebastian served as a recurring adversary of the Teen Titans, until being killed by his successor, Sebastian Blood IX.

A different iteration of Brother Blood appeared in the 2003 Teen Titans animated series, and its 2013 spin-offTeen Titans Go!, voiced by John DiMaggio. Sebastian Blood was also a recurring character on the second season of The CW Arrowverse show Arrow, played by Kevin Alejandro.

Blood Drinker(Su): While not undead, Sebastian does possess some vampiric abilities.

Sebastian’s natural attacks are considered evil and magic for the purpose of bypassing damage reduction and regeneration.

If Sebastian successfully pins a foe or damages a flat footed foe with his bite attack, he can drain their blood. Sebastian gains an enhancement bonus to Strength, Dexterity and Constitution equal to the target’s ability scores -20. Even if he attacks the same being several times, he can not gain a larger ability score through this power than the victim itself possesses.

If Sebastian bites a being with superstrength he gains a +2 bonus to damage rolls and doubles his lift modifier. For every 5 points of superstrength the target has, Sebastian further increases this damage bonus by +2 and his lift modifier by +1 (from x2 to x3, for example). Sebastian can only gain this bonus a number of times equal to the level of superstrength in the victim.

Likewise, if Sebastian bites a being with superspeed, he also gains a +1 speed bonus to Armor Class, Reflex Saves and Initiative checks, plus a +30 ft. bonus to his land speed. For every 5 points of superspeed the target has, the bonuses are increased by +1 and his land speed by another 30 ft. Sebastian can gain these bonuses a number of times equal to the level of superspeed of the victim.

Sebastian also absorbs up to 5 points of damage reduction from a being with a successful bite attack, which increases his own by the same amount. This damage reduction can be bypassed by the same attacks the victim’s damage reduction was, as well as by silver or good-aligned weapons.

Sebastian is also capable of using any other special attacks possessed by a creature whose blood he has drained, including spells and spell-like abilities.

These bonuses last for ten minutes per hit die of the drained creature. Enhancement bonuses gained from the same creature stack, those gained from draining other creatures overlap.

Corrupt Eternity (Su): Sebastian has stolen the ability of Kid Eternity to summon the dead, but this ability has been twisted. He can summon any dead creature he desires as a standard action. The creature appears with all its abilities, it’s type changed into undead, receiving damage reduction 5/good and obeying Sebastian.

Improved Grab (Ex): If Sebastian makes a successful bite attack against a creature of his size or smaller, he can initiate a grapple as a free action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity.

Mesmerize (Su): Sebastian can mesmerize living creatures, rendering them unable of disobeying him. As a full round action, he can affect any living being within 30 ft with this effect. The targeted creature must make a DC 18 Will save or it will fall in Sebastian’s control.

Beings controlled in this way can only take one move action or standard action each round and they treat every order made by Sebastian as a suggestion spell. Beings under this type of control may attempt a Will save if asked to do something against it’s nature and, if they succeed, the effect is broken. If they stray more than 120 ft. away from Sebastian, the victims can also attempt a saving throw to break free of the effect.

This ability is keyed to the Brother Blood lineage and the followers of the Church of Blood and outsiders that serve or are related to Trigon take a -10 penalty to the save to resist the effect.

Cult Leader (Ex): Sebastian is the head of the fanatic Church of Blood. He gains Leadership as a bonus feat and receives a +10 bonus to Charisma-based skill checks against the followers of the church and evil outsiders that serve Trigon.

Possessions

The Shawl of Blood: Sebastian wears the heirloom of the Cult of Blood, a prayer shawl suspected to once belonging to Christ and corrupted.

The Shawl grants Spell Resistance 25, and a +4 profane bonus to armor class and all saving throws. The shawl is attuned to the bloodline of Brother Blood and it can only be worn by him. As long as Sebastian wears the shawl, he does not take aging penalties to ability scores and he can not die of old age.

The shawl is cursed and the wearer is doomed to be killed by his own son before reaching 100 years of age.
