Amazo is a fictional android from DC Comics. He has fought the Justice League of America on several occasions.

Amazo is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky and first appeared in The Brave and the Bold #30 (June 1960) as an adversary of the Justice League of America. Since debuting during the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character has appeared in comic books and other DC Comics-related products, including animated television seriestrading cards and video games.

Traditionally,he is an android created by the villain scientist Professor Ivo and gifted with technology that allows him to mimic the abilities and powers of superheroes he fights (usually the Justice League), as well as make copies of their weapons (though these copies are less powerful than the original). His default powers are often those of FlashAquamanMartian ManhunterWonder Woman, and Green Lantern (the Justice League founding members that he first fought). He is similar and often compared to the later created Marvel android villain Super-Adaptoid.

In the New 52 timeline of DC Comics, Amazo begins as the A-Maze Operating System and then becomes an android capable of duplicating superhuman powers. Later on, a sentient Amazo Virus infects research scientist Armen Ikarus and takes over his mind. With Ikarus as a host, the Amazo Virus infects other people, granting them super-powers and controlling their minds before they die within 24 hours.

In live-action media, multiple Amazo robots appeared in the Arrowverse crossover event Elseworlds.

This Amazo possesses the powers of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash (Wally West), Elongated Man and Martian Manhunter.

Analyze: He possesses Batman’s talent for sizing up his opposition. He may make a Knowledge check against a DC equal to (10 + opponent’s hit die + opponent’s Intelligence modifier + opponent’s Wisdom modifier). If he is successful, he gains the following benefits.

  • +1 insight bonus to AC against attacks made by that opponent for every point by which he exceeds the DC.
  • +1 bonus to attack and damage against that opponent for every point by which he exceeds the DC.
  • +1 resistance bonus to saves against attacks made by that opponent for every point by which he exceeds the DC.
  • +1 competence bonus to initiative rolls against the opponent for every point by which he exceeds the DC.

In addition, for every 5 points by which he exceeds the DC, he may gain one of the following advantages.

  • Intimate knowledge of one of the opponent’s special attacks, qualities, or vulnerabilities. For instance, if he made a successful check against the tarrasque, he could know of its vulnerability to wish magic.
  • Complete knowledge of opponent’s base AC, attack bonus or max hit points. This allows Amazo to “metagame”, tailoring his use of Power Attack, Combat Expertise, and the like.

Cold Breath (Ex)

Once per round, as a standard action, he may exhale a blast of freezing cold winds from his mouth. This affects a 100 foot cone, and deals 10d6 points of cold damage. Creatures and objects within the area are also affected as if by a hurricane strength wind. Amazo may use his cold breath once per round.

Fighting Skill

  • He possesses the fighting capabilities of both Wonder Woman and Batman. He gains bonus fighter feats as a fighter of his hit die.
  • He is never considered flanked.
  • Missing Amazo with a melee attack provokes an attack of opportunity from him.
  • He gains a +8 bonus to attack and damage rolls when fighting unarmed, and a +3 bonus when fighting with archaic weaponry.
  • Amazo gains a +3 bonus to AC for every -1 penalty he takes to attack while using Combat Expertise.
  • Amazo’s slam attacks deal bludgeoning, slashing, or piercing damage, as he sees fit. It is a free action to change the type of damage he deals.

Heat Vision (Ex)

Once per round, as a standard action, Amazo may fire a blast of extreme heat from his eyes. This deals 10d6 points of fire damage and requires a ranged touch attack to connect.

Super Senses (Ex)

Amazo possesses the incredible sensory powers of Superman. He suffers distance penalties of -1 per mile instead of 1 per 10 feet. By focusing (requiring one of his swift actions for the round), he can extend this by a factor of 10 per swift action used. This is cumulative, so if he used three of his swift actions to extend his senses, he would suffer a -1 penalty per 1,000 miles.

  • By focusing his sight as a swift action, Amazo may see through solid material. This power is blocked by lead.
  • By focusing his sight as a swift action, Amazo may see into the microscopic spectrum. This eliminates any size bonus to armor class or Hide checks.
  • Amazo possesses both Darkvision and low light vision

Super Speed Level 20 (Ex)

The following benefits are provided from Superspeed Level 20:

  • +20 speed bonus to AC, initiative, and Reflex saves
  • +20 speed bonus to attack rolls
  • +10 speed bonus to melee damage rolls
  • Amazo may make 20 swift actions in a round.
  • Amazo reduces the amount of time to complete an action by 4 steps, allowing him to take full round actions as immediate actions.
  • Characters with less than Superspeed level 10 are considered flat-footed for the purposes of Amazo’s attacks. Characters with Uncanny Dodge have an effective Superspeed Level equal to their Dexterity modifier for this purpose.
  • When using the run action, Amazo moves 160x his movement rate (96,000 feet; 288,000 feet fly)

Superstrength Level 7 (Ex)

  • +14 melee damage bonus.
  • +7 bonus on grapple and bull rush checks.
  • Lift capacity x128.

Green Lantern Ring

Amazo possesses a replica of a Green Lantern ring. Below are listed some of the more common uses of the ring, however this does not begin to cover all the possibilities. Amazo’s ring has not displayed the full array of abilities that Green Lanterns have demonstrated; it is unknown if this is due to the android’s lack of imagination or a limit
of the replica ring itself. For the sake of accuracy, only those powers that have been demonstrated by Amazo are listed.

The ring is powered by a Concentration check using the wielder’s Charisma modifier rather than Constitution. Amazo may take 10 on a Concentration check to wield the ring, even under stressful situations. Amazo always takes 10 rather than attempting an actual check.

The following effects are always active:

  • +5 deflection bonus to armor class
  • +5 bonus to saves
  • +25 wound points
  • Amazo’s slam attack deals +2d6 force damage.

Construct The ring forms a energy construct of Amazo’s choosing. This construct may be in the form of any creature. (See ‘Creating a Green Lantern Ring construct‘) Amazo must partially concentrate on these constructs to keep them active, but can do so without penalty. Amazo may attempt to create more than one construct at a time, but he suffers a -5 cumulative penalty to other Concentration checks for each construct beyond the first created at one time. Creating a construct is a standard action.

Ring Blast The ring fires a powerful blast of energy. This blast is a ray with a 530 foot range that deals 26d6 damage. This damage may be of any type Amazo chooses, although force is the default. Amazo may also fire a 330 foot blast that deals 16d6 cosmic damage. Amazo may unleash an area affecting blast, in which case it targets
a 265 foot cone and allows a Reflex save (DC 41) for half damage. Either function is an attack action.

Shield The ring puts up a personal barrier that absorbs all attacks, energy and spells. The shield can withstand 530 points of damage. Amazo can also create an area shield. The shield has a square area of 530 feet, although this total area can be shaped as he sees fit. Additionally, he may double the area, at the cost of halving the total damage absorbed by the shield. Creating a shield is a standard action.
