Div, Ghawwas

Ghawwas 1
My Images (midjourney.com)

Appearance: Ghawwas are fearsome creatures, resembling a grotesque fusion of humanoid and prehistoric fish. Their bodies are adorned with spiny ridges, coral-like horns, and sharp, needle-like teeth. Standing at a towering 12 feet tall and weighing over a thousand pounds, they strike an imposing figure that inspires fear and dread.

Behavior: Fueled by malice and treachery, Ghawwas revel in spreading chaos and ruin across the seas. They are relentless predators, viewing all mortals as enemies, but harbor a particular animosity towards water-breathing creatures such as merfolk and locathah. Cunning and sadistic, they delight in tormenting sailors, slashing sails, poisoning crews, and stealing cargo, all while playing twisted games to drive their victims to madness.

Habitat: Ghawwas primarily dwell in the inky depths of the ocean, where they prowl beneath busy shipping lanes, ever ready to prey upon unsuspecting vessels. However, they are not confined solely to the sea and are known to teleport to oases to defile them or drain them dry. Some Ghawwas even take pleasure in wandering the deserts, drying up isolated oases that desert dwellers rely on for drinking water.

Modus Operandi: As sadistic hunters, Ghawwas often target individual ships, engaging in a variety of malicious acts to sow chaos and despair. They slash sails, poison sailors, and steal cargo, relishing the fear and confusion they create. Ghawwas are also known to play mind games with their victims, appearing only to single crew members before disappearing beneath the waves, leaving their prey to question their sanity.

Motivation: Driven by a deep-seated hatred for all living beings, Ghawwas seek to bring ruin to the seas and wreak havoc upon those who dwell there. Their motivations are fueled by malice and a desire for power, as they delight in causing suffering and destruction wherever they roam.

Treasure standard

Full of poison and treachery, ghawwas foul the seas and seek to bring ruin to those who dwell there. Ghawwas resemble a mixture of hulking humanoid, prehistoric fish, and poisonous bottom-feeder. While most ghawwas live in salt water, they sometimes teleport to oases to defile them or suck them dry. Although they see all mortals as enemies, ghawwas bear a particular grudge against peaceable, water-breathing creatures such as merfolk and locathah.

All ghawwas find the tolling of bells insufferable, the sound filling them with rage and driving them to seek out the source and destroy either the bell or those ringing it. The typical ghawwas stands 12 feet tall and weighs close to 1,200 pounds.
