Buckawn

Buckawn 4
My Images (midjourney.com)

Appearance: The Buckawn is a diminutive fey creature standing at a mere 2 feet tall, adorned in studded leather that seamlessly blends with the forest hues. Covered in a thick coat of swarthy fur, their eyes gleam with a greenish-brown intensity, giving them an enigmatic aura. Despite their small stature, their wiry frames exude agility and grace.

Behavior: Renowned for their reclusive nature, Buckawns are elusive and rarely engage with outsiders. In Scottish folklore, their behavior is contradictory; they display mischievous tendencies yet offer invaluable assistance in times of need. Their social structure revolves around tribes, and their loyalty to one another is unwavering. Although they might seem distant, Buckawns form tight-knit bonds within their communities.

Habitat: Buckawns thrive in temperate forests, where their natural affinity with the flora and fauna allows them to move seamlessly through the foliage. They create hidden sanctuaries deep within the heart of the woods, fiercely guarding these domains from intrusion. The magical aura of their habitats reflects their deep connection with nature.

Modus Operandi: In combat, they favor stealth and poisoned blades. Armed with daggers and darts, they use their agility to gain strategic advantages. Their poisoned weapons, often coated with moonseed berries, are deployed when facing formidable foes or when outnumbered. They are experts in hit-and-run tactics, disappearing into the shadows as swiftly as they appear.

Motivation: Driven by an innate desire to protect their forest realms, Buckawns are motivated by a deep connection to the natural world. They guard against trespassers, evil-doers, and those who threaten the pristine beauty of their domains. While appearing aloof, their actions reflect a commitment to maintaining the delicate balance of their ecosystems. The Buckawn’s motivation lies in preserving the sanctity of their enchanted forests and ensuring the well-being of their fey kin.

ABOUT

Buckawns are somehow related to brownies, but they are nowhere near as kind-hearted and playful. Buckawns are extremely reclusive and rarely have dealings with outside races.

Trade of any kind between a buckawn tribe and another race is virtually unheard of. Characters who journey into a buckawn’s realm are usually left alone, providing they themselves leave their realm alone. Trespassers, evil-doers, and those that disturb the natural beauty of their domain are dealt with quickly–and permanently if necessary. They favor daggers and darts in combat. They readily use poisoned blades when confronted with a tough opponent, when outnumbered, or when battling opponents for whom they have great disdain.

A buckawn stands about 2 feet tall and weighs about 30 pounds.
