Creation Domain

Smiths at a forge representing the Creation Domain

The Creation Domain treats making new things as a divine act: conjured matter, crafted form, food, images and even newly created places can all become expressions of sacred creative power. The same-named published domain belongs to D&D 3.5e; Pathfinder uses Artifice rather than a standalone Creation Domain.

Edition Applicability

Creation is an additional D&D 3.5e domain. Pathfinder 1e does not publish a standalone Creation Domain; its published Artifice options are mechanically different. D&D 5e/2014 and the 2024 Cleric likewise do not publish a same-named Creation Domain, so this page does not invent modern panels merely for symmetry.

Rules status: published D&D 3.5e additional domain.

Granted Power

Under the 3.5e SRD presentation, you cast conjuration (creation) spells at +2 caster levels. A character with access to both the Artifice and Creation domains casts conjuration (creation) spells at a total +3 caster levels.

Source note: a later Complete Divine presentation lists the Creation-domain bonus as +1 caster level while retaining the +3 interaction with Artifice. This page uses the SRD version and keeps that source difference explicit rather than silently blending them.

How the Creation Domain Plays

Creation is a utility-heavy domain rather than a direct damage package. Its strongest moments often occur before or after combat: producing essentials, fabricating useful matter, creating convincing images, feeding a group or eventually shaping a demiplane. The granted power rewards a cleric who leans heavily into the conjuration (creation) subschool.

Who Grants the Creation Domain?

Ptah is a strong fit where creation through thought, speech, craft or ordered making belongs to his established portfolio. Other deities should receive the domain only when creation itself is sacred to them, rather than simply because they patronise artisans.

Priests, Temples and Rites

Creation priests bless workshops, oversee first-use ceremonies for important objects, preserve patterns and measures, and treat making as a religious act. Some focus on practical abundance—food, water and shelter—while others see architecture, images or the creation of new spaces as reflections of divine ordering.

What Are Creation Priests Doing Now?

They are restoring workshops destroyed by war, reproducing lost ritual objects, investigating magically created materials that should not persist, debating whether a newly made being counts as property or person, and searching for the formulae behind legendary acts of creation.

Rules Sources and Licensing

  • D&D 3.5e SRD: granted power and spell list follow the Additional Domains Creation Domain.
  • Complete Divine: a later printed version uses +1 caster level rather than the SRD’s +2; that discrepancy is identified rather than hidden.
  • Pathfinder 1e: no same-named standalone Creation Domain is presented as official; use Artifice and its published subdomains where appropriate.
  • Modern D&D: no same-named official 2014 or 2024 panel is manufactured.
