Venus is the Roman goddess of love, desire, fertility and attraction, but Roman cult also makes her an ancestral and victorious power. Venus Genetrix places her inside the Aeneas-Julian lineage, while Venus Victrix joins divine favour to victory. A Roman Venus page therefore needs more than an Aphrodite name-swap.
Same Deity, Different Cultural Aspect
Venus is the Roman aspect of Aphrodite: one goddess expressed through Roman love, fertility, ancestry and victory traditions such as Genetrix and Victrix. The Aphrodite page presents the Hellenic aspect. Both pages remain separate and self-canonical because they describe different cults and cultural presentations, not different cosmic beings.
Divine Mechanics
Campaign Divine Tier 35 describes Venus’s setting-scale power and is not an SRD challenge rating. The rules-facing 5.5e block stays within SRD 5.2.1 CR 30 and ability-score-30 ceilings.

Venus in Roman Religion
Roman Venus is not confined to private romance. At the battle of Pharsalus, Caesar vowed a temple to Venus Genetrix, the mythical ancestress of the Julian gens, and placed her at the centre of his forum. Venus Victrix likewise joins divine favour to victory and public success.
Those Roman titles coexist with love, fertility and beauty. The result is a goddess who can care about courtship, gardens, dynastic marriage, ancestry and political claims at the same time. Greek Aphrodite traditions remain relevant, but Roman cult changes which parts become publicly important.
What Is Venus Doing Right Now?
Dynastic marriages, disputed bloodlines and rulers claiming ancient Roman ancestry draw Venus into politics throughout Italy and beyond. She is especially active where private affection is being forced to carry the weight of treaties and inheritance.
Her cult exposes forged genealogies, coerced unions and rulers who invoke sacred ancestry while treating actual descendants as expendable. She may favour a politically inconvenient love when it reveals that a supposedly stable alliance was never freely made.
Worship in the Campaign Present
Venus is worshipped in gardens, household shrines, elite ancestral cults and civic temples. Some devotees approach her as a protector of affection and fertility; others invoke Genetrix for ancestry or Victrix before contests, campaigns and political struggles.
Her priesthoods are not identical in temperament. A garden shrine may care little for dynastic propaganda, while a lineage cult may speak constantly about ancestry. The campaign treats those differences as distinct Roman emphases within one divine power.
Domains, Spells and Divine Gifts
Venus’s clergy favour Life, Peace, Trickery, Nature and Protection themes. Suitable spells include Charm Person, Heroism, Calm Emotions, Suggestion, Beacon of Hope, Compulsion, Greater Restoration and Mass Suggestion.
Gift: Recognise the Bond
The devotee can tell whether two willing creatures genuinely love, trust or cherish one another, though not the exact nature of the bond.
Gift: Refuse the Forced Heart
Once per long rest, the devotee automatically succeeds on a saving throw against magical charm or compelled affection.
Relics
The Myrtle Diadem
A living wreath that blooms when worn by someone entering a union freely and wilts in the presence of coercion or concealed identity.
The Mirror of Genetrix
This mirror shows not a face but the living chain of people whose choices made the viewer’s life possible.
Relationships
Mars is the most volatile of Venus’s major relationships, joining love to war and desire to civic force. Juno overlaps with marriage but judges lawful status and reciprocal duty where Venus is more interested in attraction, ancestry and favour.
Use Venus Tonight
The Marriage That Cannot Be Blessed
Every priest can perform the rite, but Venus refuses every omen until one concealed clause is removed from the treaty.
The False Ancestor
A claimant’s bloodline passes every mundane test; the Mirror of Genetrix shows a deliberate gap.
Mars Leaves the Sword
A weapon sacred to Mars is found in a Venus shrine, still warm and wrapped in myrtle.
Divine Estate and Regional Effects
Where Venus’s presence is strong, a major sanctuary can project the following effects across roughly six miles. A small shrine normally manifests only one effect within a much smaller area. Unless another divine power contests them, the effects fade over 1d10 days after the sanctuary is abandoned, desecrated or deliberately renounces the deity’s protection.
Affections Cannot Be Forged
Magic can still charm, but within the region a creature knows when its feelings have been magically altered once the effect ends.
Gardens Answer
Cultivated flowers, vines and fruiting plants bloom out of season around acts of genuine reconciliation, courtship or renewed kinship.
Ancestry Surfaces
Deliberately falsified genealogies and claims of descent acquire small contradictions that careful investigators can discover with Advantage.

Historical Sources and Rules Compatibility
- Forum Iulium and Venus Genetrix — Caesar’s forum and the temple of Venus Genetrix
Historical cult material is separated from campaign invention. The 5.5e block respects SRD 5.2.1 numeric ceilings; the higher Campaign Divine Tier is setting-only. Pathfinder 1e deity mechanics are explicitly a campaign epic extension. D&D 3.5e uses divine-rank structure.
Rules licensing. D&D 5.5e terminology derived from the System Reference Document 5.2.1 is used under CC BY 4.0 where applicable. Pathfinder 1e and D&D 3.5e deity statistics on this page are original campaign conversions rather than official published deity stat blocks.
