Tantric Witch Tradition — Body, Spirit and Esoteric Discipline

This fantasy Tantric Witch tradition is built around disciplined body, breath, meditation, healing, sensory awareness and esoteric ritual. Some covens may include fertility or intimate rites, but those are possible practices rather than the definition of the tradition.

What it feels like to play: this tradition works best when your Witch treats training as part of adventuring life. Rest, meditation, healing and preparation are not flavour added after the rules—they are how the character understands magic.

5.5e / 2024 Tradition

Level 3: Disciplined Practice

You gain proficiency in Medicine or Insight; if already proficient, gain Expertise instead. Cure Wounds and Sanctuary are always prepared. At Witch level 5 add Lesser Restoration; at level 7 add Aura of Vitality; at level 9 add Greater Restoration.

When you restore Hit Points to a creature with a Witch spell, add one roll of your Hex Die to the healing. A creature can receive this additional healing only once per turn.

Level 6: Chakra Healing

As a Bonus Action, expend one Hexcraft use and touch a creature. It regains Hit Points equal to two rolls of your Hex Die + your Intelligence modifier. You can instead end either the Charmed, Frightened or Poisoned condition on the creature.

Level 10: Strength of Soul

You have Advantage on Constitution saving throws made to maintain Concentration. In addition, when you make a Constitution saving throw or a Charisma ability check, you can expend one Hexcraft use to add your Hex Die after seeing the d20 roll.

Level 14: As One

Your body and spirit act as one. You gain Resistance to Psychic damage and Advantage on saving throws against Charmed and Frightened. Whenever you expend a Hexcraft use, you can also gain Temporary Hit Points equal to your Intelligence modifier + one roll of your Hex Die.

Description: These Witches study the relationship between body, mind, breath, spirit and magical power. Their practice may include meditation, controlled movement, healing touch, sensory exercises, ritual fasting, breath-work and disciplined awareness. Individual covens decide whether fertility or intimate rites have any place in that practice.

Training often includes posture, controlled movement, breath and meditation, but there is no required body type, age or standard of beauty. Some practitioners train in solitude; others work in small covens, healing houses or schools where physical and spiritual disciplines are taught together.

Any people can develop this tradition. Human, elf, halfling, dwarf, orc and mixed-heritage covens adapt the discipline to their own bodies, philosophies, patrons and cultural practices rather than following one biological model.

Clothing is chosen for ritual, climate and movement rather than seduction. Some covens favour loose garments suited to meditation and exercise; others use robes, cords, jewellery or symbolic colours tied to their patron or school.

Role: Tantric Witches often serve as healers, meditation teachers, ritual specialists or advisers on body-and-spirit discipline. Communities may misunderstand unfamiliar rites, but suspicion should arise from local culture and specific practices rather than a blanket assumption of sexual impropriety.

Some Tantric covens take part in healing, seasonal or fertility rites, while others focus almost entirely on self-mastery and spiritual discipline. Their deep study of the body also makes healing a natural specialism for many practitioners.

Local reputation varies. A Tantric Witch may be respected as a healer and disciplined mystic, regarded with curiosity, or opposed where the coven’s rites conflict with local custom.

Joining this Tradition: Most initiates seek a teacher after discovering an unusual talent for bodily, meditative or healing magic. Some are recruited by a coven; others encounter the tradition through study, travel or a patron’s guidance.

Tantric covens keep ceremonies according to their region and patron. Spring rites may bless crops, bodies or households; other groups mark solstices, equinoxes or local holy days through meditation, healing and symbolic renewal rather than one universal fertility custom.

Leaving this Tradition: Under the legacy rules, deliberately abandoning the discipline suspends its supernatural benefits. Former members may lose access to teachers, coven houses and guarded techniques, but leaving does not automatically make them social outcasts or permanent enemies of the tradition.

Skills & Feats: Under the legacy rules, Tantric Witches receive Perform, Bluff and Diplomacy as class skills. Individual covens may also teach feats or disciplines connected to concentration, restraint, healing or ritual practice.

Occult Powers

Minor: 7th Level: Chakra Healing. At 7th level, the Tantric witch’s body and spirit begin to become one. As such, they can heal via touch as a paladin‘s laying on hands ability, except this healing is not the result of positive energy but personal spiritual energies. The Tantric witch can heal a total number of hit-points equal to her own Charisma modifier times her Tantric witch level per day. These points may be used all at once or through out the course of the day.

Medial: 13th Level: Strength of Soul. At 13th level, they add half of their Constitution modifier (if positive) to Charisma checks and vice versa. This bonus is not applied to hit points or saving throws, but it can be used to effect the tantra’s healing ability.

Greater: 19th Level: As One. At 19th level, the Tantric Witch achieves perfect connection of the body and spirit, and can add her Constitution modifier to the saving throws of their spells and her Charisma modifier to their total hit points and all saving throws.

Special Benefits: Tantric covens often maintain houses, teachers and guardians who can support travelling members. Under the legacy rules, a Tantric Witch can use Create Talisman to make a healing charm holding a number of hit points equal to the Witch’s Charisma modifier per use until its stored healing is exhausted.

Legacy Restriction: The original write-up associates the tradition with chaotic alignment because many practitioners work independently. The wider setting does not treat solitary practice as evidence of alignment; disciplined or highly structured Tantric covens are equally possible.

Equipment: Tantric Witches may invest in mats, oils, incense, ritual cords, robes, diagrams, instruments or other training aids. Use ordinary campaign equipment costs rather than requiring a fixed percentage of the character’s income.

Coven Domains: Chaos, Evil, Good Law, Tantric

Preferred/Barred Covens: Tantric Witches are most common in covens whose patrons concern healing, discipline, transformation, fertility, beauty, knowledge, bodily excellence or spiritual awakening. No patron type is universally required.

Many Tantric covens oppose destructive outsiders and life-denying necromancy because their practice values disciplined embodiment, healing and self-mastery. Individual patrons and alignments can still produce exceptions.

Relationship to the Patron: The patron is approached through disciplined integration of body and spirit. A coven might serve a deity or spirit associated with healing, beauty, transformation, fertility, knowledge or self-mastery, but no single pantheon or gendered divine model defines the tradition.

Different regions adapt the fantasy tradition to local patrons and philosophies. Real-world Hindu and Buddhist Tantric traditions should be treated as historical religions in their own right rather than converted directly into Witch subclasses.

Source/Views of Magic: Tantric Witches understand magic as something cultivated through the disciplined relationship between body, mind, breath, spirit and patronage. The body is a medium of practice, not proof of virtue, beauty or sexual availability.

Wealth: Standard for all witches

Other: Tantric Witches can cooperate with most covens and classes. Misunderstanding may arise where unfamiliar body-centred rites challenge local custom, but the tradition is another form of magical and spiritual discipline rather than a measure of sexual behaviour.

Relations with clerics, paladins, wizards, rogues, bards and sorcerers depend on specific patrons, schools, oaths and local attitudes rather than automatic class hostility.

Tantric schools can exist in cities, courts, monasteries, travelling communities or isolated retreats, so interaction with druids, rangers and martial traditions varies by region.

Tantric Witches may multiclass or enter prestige paths when the campaign rules allow it. Hermetic schools and other magical orders judge them according to doctrine, scholarship and reputation; no real-world occult order is required as part of the setting tradition.
