Luna is the Roman aspect of Selene, the divine Moon. The underlying goddess is the same, but Roman worship gives her its own temple, calendar and civic setting rather than merely importing a Greek biography unchanged.
Same Deity, Different Cultural Aspect
Luna and Selene are the same underlying goddess. This page presents her Roman cult and campaign presence; the Selene page presents the Hellenic aspect. Both remain separate and self-canonical because their cult traditions differ, not because they are two cosmic beings.
Divine Mechanics
Campaign Divine Tier 36 describes Luna’s setting-scale power. The 5.5e rules-facing form stays within CR 30, PB +9 and ability scores no higher than 30.

Luna in Roman Religion
An Aventine temple of Luna is attested in Roman tradition and was old enough to be associated with Servius Tullius; it is securely documented by the second century BCE. Its dedication was celebrated on 31 March.
Roman Luna could be identified with Selene without losing her Roman cult setting. Separate Roman solar and lunar worship also means Luna should not simply be folded into Diana, just as Sol need not be folded into Apollo.
What Is Luna Doing Right Now?
Night roads, sea travel, military marches and magical work increasingly depend on accurate lunar observation. Luna’s priests become valuable wherever calendars, tides, visibility or night movement determine success.
She is especially active when rulers manipulate calendars or omens for political convenience. The moon is difficult to bribe, and a whole city can look up at once.
Worship in the Campaign Present
Travellers, navigators, midwives, night watchmen, astrologers and people who work by moonlight keep Luna’s rites. Her shrines favour exposed roofs, east-facing courtyards and silver lamps.
The Roman cult overlaps with Diana but does not disappear into it. Diana governs hunt, sanctuary and wild places; Luna is the visible Moon itself.
Domains, Spells and Divine Gifts
Luna’s clergy favour Moon, Light, Knowledge, Travel and Twilight themes. Suitable spells include Faerie Fire, Moonbeam, Darkvision, See Invisibility, Freedom of Movement, True Seeing and Find the Path.
Gift: Moonwise
The devotee always knows the current lunar phase and the direction of moonrise if the moon is above the horizon.
Gift: Silver Road
Once per long rest, the devotee and companions within 20 feet ignore Difficult Terrain while travelling under moonlight for 1 hour.
Relics
The Aventine Crescent
A silver crescent that brightens when a public calendar, astronomical record or lunar omen has been deliberately falsified.
The Night Chariot Pin
Fixed to a wagon, saddle or ship’s mast, it always points toward the safest moonlit route visible from the current position.
Relationships
Selene is Luna’s Hellenic aspect, not a second moon goddess. Diana shares lunar imagery while remaining the goddess of hunt and sanctuary; Sol Invictus is the complementary Roman solar power.
Use Luna Tonight
The Moon Is One Day Early
Every calendar says the full moon is tomorrow. The sky disagrees.
The Silver Road
A moonbeam forms a visible path across open water toward ruins absent from every chart.
The Aventine Shadow
The moon casts the shadow of a vanished temple over modern buildings.
Divine Estate and Regional Effects
Where Luna’s presence is strong, a major sanctuary can project the following effects across roughly six miles. A small shrine normally manifests only one effect in a smaller area. Unless another divine power contests them, the effects fade over 1d10 days after the sanctuary is abandoned or desecrated.
Moonlight Clarifies
Under natural moonlight, concealed paths, silvered markings and recent tracks are easier to see; Perception checks relying on sight gain Advantage.
Night Keeps Its Measure
Within the region, travellers can always judge the moon’s phase and approximate time while the sky is visible.
False Moonlight Fades
Illusions that imitate the moon, stars or lunar omens visibly distort when compared with the true night sky.
