Xiuhcoatl

Xiuhcoatl is the personification of drought and scorched earth. It was represented in artifacts as a serpent, and is related to the fire cult of Xiuhtecuhtli.

The infamous Xiuhcoatl are the polar opposites of the Coautl, winged serpents of flame and hellfire that bring drought and destruction in their wake. These serpents of darkness in the employ of Apep have fought with the Coautl in the service of Ngalyod since time immemorial for the control of the material plane, though neither has ever waged their war long before the intervention of other deities playing referee. The Xiuhcoatl are usually found with Apep in the portal mouth to the River of the Underworld that can be located in the Elemental Plane of Fire. Unlike the Coautl, Xiuhcoatl are land-based serpents, their stubby wings making it easier to slither across the ground than Fly. They are also violent in the extremes, reveling in killing Lawful Good creatures in the most sadistic ways they can dream up. The Xiuhcoatl mock the Coautl as “weak imitations of true power”, and take even more pleasure in creatively killing one of their winged good relatives.
