The road from York is littered with burned carts, broken gates and frightened tenants. Men blame the Nevilles, men blame the Percies, and both sides have heralds ready with solemn declarations that they are entirely innocent. Egremont is seldom far from the next outrage.
Thomas Percy, a younger son of the Earl of Northumberland, became Lord Egremont in 1449. He attacked a Neville wedding party at Heworth Moor in August 1453. The feud is ongoing in 1454; events later in that year must not be treated as already settled.

What Is Thomas Percy Doing Now?
Egremont gathers riders to protect one of his father’s tenants and to settle a score with John Neville. A seized packhorse carries a bloodstained marriage contract: proof that his enemies intend to claim property the Percies believe is theirs.
Encounters and Adventure Hooks
- The party must escort a messenger bearing a genuine Neville safe-conduct through villages terrorised by Egremont’s riders.
- A manor has been plundered under a Percy banner. The thieves are impostors, but Egremont wants to hang them himself.
- A wounded knight claims that the feud began with a stolen enchanted heirloom; he has one night to prove it.
Personality and Relationships
Restless, proud, persuasive in private and reckless before his men. He respects hard courage and loyalty; he is least trustworthy when he calls a violent raid a question of honour.
His father the Earl of Northumberland represents the elder Percy interest. John Neville and Thomas Neville are his rivals, Richard Percy his brother and ally, and every northern sheriff knows that enforcing the law against one camp may recruit the other as an enemy.
Equipment and Rewards
Mail, surcoat with Percy colours, warhorse, longsword, lance, dagger, seal and orders delivered by trusted riders. A suitable reward is intelligence, safe passage or practical assistance, never automatic political immunity.
