Monsieur Thénardier is a portly man with a jovial demeanor, but his charm hides a cruel and cunning personality. He is an expert in manipulation and is always looking for ways to make a profit, even if it means deceiving and exploiting others. Monsieur Thénardier is driven by his greed and desire for wealth, which leads him to engage in illegal activities, such as stealing and extortion.

Madame Thénardier, on the other hand, is a thin and sharp-featured woman with a vicious tongue. She is just as ruthless as her husband, but with a more sadistic edge. Madame Thénardier enjoys inflicting pain on others and is not above using her feminine wiles to get what she wants. She is fiercely protective of her family and will do anything to ensure their survival.

The Thénardiers have two daughters, Eponine and Azelma, whom they treat with neglect and abuse. They also have a son, Gavroche, whom they have abandoned to the streets. The Thénardiers’ ultimate goal is to accumulate wealth and status, and they will do whatever it takes to achieve this, even if it means sacrificing their own family members.

The Thénardiers’ criminal activities bring them into contact with various other characters in Les Misérables, such as Jean Valjean, Fantine, and Marius. Monsieur Thénardier’s schemes often backfire, leading to his arrest and imprisonment. Madame Thénardier, however, manages to evade justice and disappears into obscurity.

Overall, the Thénardiers are a despicable duo whose actions stem from their greed and desire for power. They have no qualms about exploiting others and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
