Panther (Heraldic)

Panther, Heraldic

A Panther is a creature out of ancient myth that resembles a big cat with a multicoloured hide.

Under medieval belief after feasting the panther will sleep in a cave for a total of three days. After this period ends, the panther roars, in the process emitting a sweet smelling odor. This odor draws in any creatures who smell it (the dragon being the only creature immune) and the cycle begins again.

Combat

A panther attacks by running at prey, leaping, and clawing and biting as it rakes with its rear claws.

Hide in Plain Sight (Ex): Panthers can use the Hide skill even while being observed. As long as he is within 10 feet of some sort of shadow, a panther can Hide itself from view in the open without having anything to actually Hide behind.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a panther must hit with its bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can rake.

Pounce (Ex): If a panther charges, it can make a full attack, including two rake attacks.

Rake (Ex): Attack bonus +10 melee, damage 2d4+4.

Skills: Panthers have a +4 racial bonus on Hide and Move Silently checks. *In areas of tall grass or heavy undergrowth as well as in forested or dark areas, the Hide bonus improves to +8.
