These manacles are nearly indistinguishable from standard manacles upon inspection (Perception DC 25). A wearer who knows the location of the secret catch can open them as a standard action; otherwise they act like masterwork manacles. Some appear to be of common quality, though false manacles are always masterwork.

A prisoner could wear these as part of a staged arrest, keeping the concealed catch available for a planned escape. The guard’s chance to notice the deception is the published Perception DC 25; if the wearer cannot use the catch, treat the bindings as masterwork manacles rather than giving them a free escape. This is a Pathfinder 1e item, not an automatic rule for other editions.
