Archon, Sibyl

Francesco Bacchiacca (1494-1557) Title German: Sibylle Date c. 1525-1550

Sibyl archons are celestial oracles and diviners whom even other archons and angels seek out for their foresight. Their psychic potency is unmatched in the heavenly realms, and their skill at arms makes them formidable enemies of evil.

A sybil archon appears as a beautiful woman with long red, white or silver hair and a powerful build, standing over seven feet in height. Her eyes are a glowing metallic blue with no pupils. Blue-white glyphs orbit her body and shine brightly when she uses her gifts. Sybil archons forgo clothes in the confines of their temples, but don flowing cloaks or mantles and take up shining greatswords when questing on other planes. Most of the time, sibyl archons inhabit solitary shrines or temples in Heaven’s remotest reaches, where other celestials or powerful mortals come seeking their prophetic abilities. They are devoted foes of evil, however, and periodically leave their domiciles to seek out fiends to slay. Sibyl archons sometimes travel with good-aligned creatures with the aim of steering such companions toward the greatest good. They also seek out evils, whom they often try to redeem and turn to nobler ends, but some, such as the vile demon , are beyond redemption; these they strike down without mercy.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Brain Lock (Sp): As a standard action, a sibyl archon can target a single creature within 190 ft. The subject’s higher mind is locked away for as long as the archon concentrates plus 1 round. A Will saving throw (DC 19) negates this effect. It stands dazed, unable to take any actions other than those identified below. Each round on its turn, the subject may attempt a new saving throw to end the effect. This is a full-round action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. The save DC is Charisma-based and includes a +2 racial bonus.

A brain locked subject is not stunned, so attackers get no special advantage against it. A brain locked flyer must descend to the closest safe level area below it.

An air-breathing swimmer must make for the surface. This is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting effect and the equivalent of a 2nd-level spell.

Ego Whip (Sp): As a standard action, a sibyl archon can target a single creature within 190 ft. The archon’s rapid mental lashings assault the ego of its enemy, debilitating its confidence. The target takes 2d4 points of Charisma damage, or half that amount (minimum 1 point) on a successful Will save (DC 19). A target that fails its save is also dazed for 1 round. The save DC is Charisma-based and includes a +2 racial bonus. This is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting effect and the equivalent of a 2nd-level spell.

Mindlink (Sp): As a standard action, a sibyl archon can forge a telepathic bond with up to five target creatures within 45 feet; no target may be more than 15 feet of another target. Unwilling targets receive a Will save (DC 16) to resist. The save DC is Charisma-based. The archon can communicate telepathically with any or all targets through the bond even if they do not share a common language. No special power or influence is established as a result of the bond. Once the bond is formed, it works over any distance (although not from one plane to another). This is a mind-affecting effect and the equivalent of a 1st-level spell.

Second Chance (Sp): Once per day as a standard action, a sibyl archon may take a hand in influencing the probable outcomes of its immediate environment. This effect lasts for 9 rounds or until discharged. For as long as this ability is in effect, the archon can see the many alternative branches that reality could take in the next few seconds, and with this foreknowledge it gains the ability to reroll one attack roll, one saving throw, one ability check, or one skill check. It must take the result of the reroll, even if it’s worse than the original roll. This is a divination effect and the equivalent of a 5th-level spell.
