Bronze Giants, Guardians of the Forgotten Coast

Bronze Giant
Create

Bronze Giants are towering, enigmatic beings whose metallic skin gleams like burnished bronze under the sun. Standing around 10 feet tall, these giants have a muscular, imposing frame that gives them the look of living war gods. Every inch of their bodies appears forged from bronze, from their fierce eyes, which glint with an amber-like intensity, to their long hair that flows like strands of molten metal. They wear intricately crafted bronze armor adorned with engravings that hint at their ancient origins, and they carry massive bronze spears and shields, weapons that seem to be an extension of their very beings.

Behavior

Bronze Giants are disciplined and warlike, living by a strict code that values strength, honor, and survival above all. They rarely speak, but when they do, their voices rumble like grinding metal, a sound that instills dread in those who hear it. Though intelligent, they are deeply antisocial, even toward their own kind, and prefer lives of solitude or small, insular groups. They are reclusive and hostile to outsiders, and they engage in battle with a calculated ferocity, showing no mercy to those who intrude upon their lands.

Habitat

These giants inhabit remote coastal cliffs and rocky shores where few dare to tread. They often carve fortress-like homes into the rock face, fortresses that blend seamlessly with their surroundings. Their chosen landscapes are harsh and unforgiving, providing them natural camouflage and allowing them to survey the waters below for approaching ships. These rugged, often storm-battered locations suit their temperaments: hard, unyielding, and detached from the world.

Modus Operandi

When outsiders venture into their territory, Bronze Giants prefer to observe from a distance, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Masters of ambush, they blend with the rocky landscape until an enemy draws near, then they charge with terrifying speed and force. If the enemy is at a distance, they hurl massive boulders with deadly accuracy; in close quarters, they engage with their longspear or brute strength. Bronze Giants are expert at using their environment to their advantage, often forcing enemies into precarious positions near cliffs or rocky shores where escape is impossible.

Motivation

Bronze Giants are driven by a fierce sense of survival and territoriality. They view their lands as sacred and are motivated by an almost instinctual need to defend them. While reclusive, they have a deep-seated pride and consider their solitude a form of strength. Occasionally, they will ambush passing ships, seeking not just to protect their territory but to claim treasures and captives, both of which they view as symbols of their dominance. This combination of pride, honor, and fierce independence makes them both fascinating and formidable, as they see themselves as the eternal guardians of their isolated domains.

Legendary Actions

  • Detect: The giant makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.
  • Attack: The giant makes one spear attack.
  • Thunderous Roar (Costs 2 Actions): The giant unleashes a powerful roar. Each creature within 30 feet that can hear it must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of its next turn.

Tactics

  • Ambush and Surprise: Bronze Giants often remain motionless, blending in with their surroundings like statues, and will use their camouflage to ambush unsuspecting adventurers.
  • Area Control: Utilizing Rock Throw to keep ranged attackers at bay and control the battlefield, the giant applies pressure to foes trying to flank or stay out of reach.
  • Crowd Control: The Thunderous Roar legendary action instills fear in enemies, disrupting their formations and providing the giant with opportunities for attack.
  • Shield Bash for Disruption: By knocking a target prone with Shield Bash, the giant creates opportunities for follow-up attacks while hindering the target’s ability to retaliate.

Environment

Bronze Giants are typically found in rugged coastal regions, often guarding hidden treasures or ancient ruins. They prefer rocky cliffs, caves, or places of power, utilizing their tremorsense to detect intruders.

Motivation

Driven by a sense of territoriality, Bronze Giants protect their domains fiercely. They may capture intruders to serve as laborers or sacrifices to ancient deities, embodying their lawful evil nature.

You see a big bronze statue representing a gigantic warrior with a crested helm, an ornate breastplate and armed with a spear and shield. As you pass it by, the statue moves – but not with the jerky, slow movements of a typical animated construct. This is a living, breathing being, as indicated by the furious war cry it emits when attacking.

Bronze giants, also known as talonian giants, are famous for their metal-like skin, which equals the texture, hardness and colour of bronze. Despite the apparently artificial composition of their bodies, bronze giants are living, organic beings. They look as Large bronze statues of armoured warriors, with big bronze eyes, long bronze hair and powerful bronze limbs. Males average 10 feet in height, their metallike bodies giving them a weight of about 15,000 pounds.

They are always dressed in bronze armour and wield bronze spears and shields, so they actually seem like they were completely forged in bronze. They are often mistaken for golems or, if they stand still, lifeless statues.

Bronze giants speak Common and Giant.

Bronze Giant Society

Bronze giants live in small fortresses built out of the coastal rock face. They prefer to live a life of isolation, farming or hunting to survive; however they are not above ambushing ships passing through their lands, both for their treasure and for human captives, which they may later use as food. They are reclusive and unfriendly, even with their own kind, so they never establish groups larger than a few individuals.

Bronze Giant Characters

Due to their warlike, disciplined behaviour, most bronze giants adopt the fighter class. Bronze giant clerics have access to the Protection, Strength and War domains. The metallic consistency of bronze giants works against arcane spellcasting as if it was full plate armour, which prevents them from becoming successful sorcerers or wizards.
