Crocodile

Crocodile
My Images (midjourney.com)

Appearance: Crocodiles are formidable reptiles with robust bodies, armored scales, and a powerful tail. Their eyes and nostrils sit atop their heads, allowing them to remain almost completely submerged in the water while observing their surroundings.

Behavior: Crocodiles are patient and stealthy hunters. They lurk near the water’s edge, partially submerged, waiting for unsuspecting prey to approach. While their movement on land may seem slow, in water, they are incredibly agile and swift.

Habitat: Crocodiles inhabit freshwater habitats like rivers, lakes, and swamps, as well as brackish waters and coastal areas. They can be found in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide.

Modus Operandi: Crocodiles use a sit-and-wait strategy for hunting. With exceptional camouflage, they remain still until prey ventures close. In a burst of speed, they launch themselves from the water, clamping their powerful jaws around the prey.

Motivation: Crocodiles are driven by survival instincts and territoriality. They hunt to feed themselves, protect their territory, and ensure the well-being of their offspring. Crocodiles play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of their habitats.

Hold Breath. The crocodile can hold its breath for 30 minutes.

Multiattack. The crocodile makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its tail.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d10 + 3) piercing damage.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target not grappled by the crocodile. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone and be grappled (escape DC 16). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the crocodile can’t bite another target.

Actions

Death Roll. The crocodile makes a bite attack against a medium or smaller creature it has grappled. If the attack hits, the target is swallowed, and the grapple ends. The swallowed target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the crocodile, and it takes 21 (6d6) acid damage at the start of each of the crocodile’s turns.

If the crocodile takes 30 damage or more on a single turn from a creature inside it, the crocodile must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate the swallowed creature, which falls prone in a space within 10 feet of the crocodile. If the crocodile dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse using 15 feet of movement, exiting prone.

This mighty crocodile, lurking in the waters, strikes with a powerful bite and tail, capable of dragging its prey beneath the surface in a fearsome death roll.

crocodile, reptile, teeth

This reptile lunges out of the placid water with shocking speed. Its jaw gapes open in a roar, its powerful tail lashing behind.

A crocodile is a primeval reptile that dwells in swamps or along the banks of rivers, a habitat that often puts it in violent contact with unsuspecting prey that come to the water’s edge to drink.

The typical crocodile is 14 feet long and weighs 1,400 pounds, but larger species exist. You can use these statistics for similar creatures, such as alligators.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Death Roll (Ex)

When grappling a foe of its size or smaller, a crocodile can perform a death roll upon making a successful grapple check. As it clings to its foe, it tucks in its legs and rolls rapidly, twisting and wrenching its victim. The crocodile inflicts its bite damage and knocks the creature prone. If successful, the crocodile maintains its grapple.

Hold Breath (Ex)

A crocodile can hold its breath for a number of rounds equal to 4 times its Constitution score before it risks drowning.

Sprint (Ex)

Once per minute a crocodile may sprint, increasing its land speed to 40 feet for 1 round.
