Silver Samurai

The Silver Samurai (Kenuichio Harada) is a fictional character in Marvel Comics’ universe.  His first appearance was in Daredevil #111 (July, 1974).

Character biography

Silver Samurai, the illegitimate son of Shingen Harada, is a Japanese mutant with the power to charge his katana with mutant energy (described as a tachyon field) that enables it to slice through any known substance including adamantium. He also sports a suit of traditional samurai armour, which has been upgraded by him and can withstand a great amount of punishment from melee weapons and some damage from fire arms. It is white and made of a silver, adamantium-like metal, hence his professional name.

Harada was once the bodyguard for the international terrorist known as the Viper and was subsequently an occasional mercenary, but he became the head of Clan Yashida after his half-sister Mariko Yashida’s death. He attempted to pay off his clan’s debts to the Yakuza and restore its honor.

Though one of Wolverine’s greatest enemies, he had apparently impressed Wolverine so greatly that Wolverine entrusted him with the care of his adopted daughter, Amiko. The Samurai declined, very bewildered as why his enemy would ask such a thing as to care for his daughter. 

The Samurai even once watched Wolverine get destroyed by the monster known as “Doombringer”, and later attacked Logan as he attempted to rescue Amiko and Yukio from their kidnappers. Professor X, noticing his skill, brainwashed the Silver Samurai into becoming the leader of the first Japanese superhero team, Big Hero 6.

Silver Samurai was recently told by the mutant Blindspot that his redemption was just a result of Professor X’s brainwashing. As a result, he had returned to his previous criminal activities. However, it now seems that Harada is currently operating as the chief security officer for the Prime Minister of Japan.

For a time, for unclear reasons, the Samurai was apprehended in the Raft prison in America, but got freed by Viper and the Hand, who transported him back to Japan. The Hand wanted the Samurai to lead them, but he wasn’t interested in a war and even helped the Avengers defeat them. Afterward, he decided to try to earn his good name back by serving the people of Japan once again.

Recently, he lost a hand in another confrontation with Wolverine. In a prevew of Civil War: Battle Damage Report, it is shown that he is still a member of the Big Hero 6, but with Sunpyre replacing her brother Sunfire, his leadership is in  question.

Tachyon Field

The Silver Samurai possesses the mutant power to surround items within a field of tachyon energy. He commonly does this to his sword which drastically increases the power of the blade.

When using his mutant power on his katana the sword automatically breaches any DR provided by armor or ignores the hardness of materials. It also inflicts +2d6 points of energy damage on a strike.

The Way of the Samurai

Harada has extensively trained in and studied the ways of Bushido and the samurai of ancient times. He possesses a number of skills derived from his training.

• Receives a +5 bonus to attack and damage rolls when using a katana
• Unarmed strike and flurry of blows as a monk of his HD Stunning Fist as a monk of his HD.
• Bonus feats as a fighter of his HD.

Drawbacks

The Silver Samurai only has one hand, having lost his other in battle to Wolverine.
