Weapon, Cost

Understanding the Cost Column

The Cost column in the Weapons tables is a reference price for the listed weapon, not a promise that any particular shop stocks it. The large tables use primarily Pathfinder 1e-style prices, while individual weapon pages may also show D&D 2024, D&D 2014 and D&D 3.5e. Choose the price from your game’s edition before deducting coins.

Standard Rules Currency

In D&D 2024 and 2014, Pathfinder 1e and D&D 3.5e, a gold piece equals 10 silver or 100 copper, and a platinum piece equals 10 gp. Fifth edition also gives an electrum piece a value of 5 sp. Brass pieces are not part of these standard coin tables. The source books determine what your characters actually carry and exchange.

Standard coinValue in gp
Copper (cp)1/100 gp
Silver (sp)1/10 gp
Electrum (ep, fifth edition)1/2 gp
Gold (gp)1 gp
Platinum (pp)10 gp

Weapon Price and Size by Edition

Pathfinder 1e: The listed weapon cost includes ordinary accompanying gear such as a scabbard or quiver. A Small or Medium version usually uses the same listed cost; a Large version costs twice as much under this weapon-table rule. Special materials, craftsmanship and local availability can change the final expense.

D&D 3.5e: Read the legacy weapon’s listed cost and equipment rules. Its Small/Medium and Large weapon-price guidance is similar to Pathfinder’s, but do not assume every related purchase, upgrade or item’s variant uses the identical multiplier.

D&D 2014: Read the price printed in the 2014 weapon table. Do not impose Pathfinder’s blanket Large-weapon cost doubling onto the fifth-edition price list.

D&D 2024: Use the 2024 equipment table and its own weapon entry. Weapon Mastery is a combat feature, not an automatic price increase. Price, availability and crafting are separate questions.

At the Table: Buying Three Javelins

In the 2014 and 2024 D&D equipment tables, a regular javelin costs 5 sp, so three cost 15 sp (1 gp and 5 sp). In the Pathfinder 1e weapon table, one javelin costs 1 gp, so three cost 3 gp. The item name is the same, but the edition’s base price differs. For the individual four-edition profiles see Javelin.

Optional Older Coin Values

The page formerly displayed a different conversion for platinum and an extra brass denomination without identifying an edition or setting rule. That older table is retained below for continuity, but it must not be mistaken for the official currency of all four rules systems.

Earlier site coin table (unverified variant)

This is the earlier table preserved from this page, not an official rulebook conversion. It includes brass coins and rates platinum at 5 gp rather than the standard 10 gp. Its status as intentional SpiralWorlds setting currency has not been established. Use it only if your campaign explicitly adopts these alternative denominations.
