The wind travels to a specific familiar location within range if it can find a route there. At the destination it delivers up to twenty-five whispered words, another brief sound lasting 1 round, or merely a faint stirring of air.

The caster can choose a travel rate from about 1 mile per hour to 1 mile per 10 minutes. On arrival, the wind remains until the message is delivered and then dissipates.

Like Magic Mouth, it cannot speak verbal spell components, use command words or activate magical effects.

Using Whispering Wind in Play

The spell is useful when the destination is known but the recipient is not: warning a guard post, leaving a timed message at a rendezvous, or sending a sound to a distant room or campsite.

Rules Sources and Licensing

The rules above preserve the older d20 form. Later editions use different long-distance communication spells.
