On a failed save, the target begins to starve. The spell cannot inflict more nonlethal damage than the target has hit points. Eating does not end the hunger, and trying to eat makes the target nauseated for 1 round unless it succeeds on a DC 12 Fortitude save.
Food, poison and potions still have their normal effects when consumed. Break Enchantment, Limited Wish, Miracle, Remove Curse or Wish can remove the curse; starvation damage must then recover normally.
Using Feast of Ashes in Play
This is a long-duration curse rather than an immediate damage spell. It is most dangerous during travel, imprisonment or any situation where recovery time matters.
What Changed?
Feast of Ashes remains a Pathfinder 1e curse. There is no automatic 5.5e, 2014 or D&D 3.5e conversion on this page, so the Pathfinder starvation, nausea and curse-removal mechanics stay edition-pure.
Counterplay and Related Magic
A successful Fortitude save prevents the spell and Spell Resistance applies. Once the curse takes hold, Remove Curse, Break Enchantment, Limited Wish, Miracle or Wish can remove it under Pathfinder rules. Compare Cup of Dust, its thirst-focused counterpart.
