Enchantment • Legacy Witch Conflict Spell

Discord

A tense mythic gathering representing the Discord enchantment

Discord drags existing tensions into the open and makes cooperation difficult. It does not create a grievance from nothing; it magnifies distrust, rivalry and unresolved conflict already present among the affected creatures.

Level Witch 2, Bard 2, Sorcerer/Wizard 2
Components V, S, M
Casting Time 1 action
Range Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Area All creatures in a 15-foot radius
Duration 1 hour + special
Saving Throw Will negates
Spell Resistance Yes

Creatures that fail the save have existing tensions pushed to the surface. Personal grudges, factional disputes, rivalry, conflicting loyalties, ideological differences or mistrust can become the focus of heated argument.

After the first hour, each affected creature makes another Will save each hour with a cumulative +2 bonus. The spell continues while at least one creature remains affected.

The original spell is primarily disruptive rather than murderous: affected creatures argue, accuse and obstruct one another, but violence is not an automatic result.

Material component: a pinch of ragweed, cayenne pepper or another powdered irritant.

What Changed?

The legacy mechanics are preserved, but old examples that treated ancestry or class stereotypes as automatic hostility have been removed. Discord exposes a real grievance in the characters involved; it does not declare that entire peoples naturally hate one another.

Using Discord in Play

Discord works best against alliances held together by necessity. Cast it on negotiators, rival factions sharing a camp, mercenaries with unpaid wages or conspirators who already distrust one another. If there is genuinely no tension to magnify, the Games Master should not invent one merely to make the spell stronger.

Counterplay and Related Magic

A successful Will save prevents the legacy effect and Spell Resistance applies. Calm Emotions is a natural thematic counter, while Dispel Magic can remove ongoing magic under the appropriate edition rules.
