Power Beside the Throne
Kratos appears in Hesiod among the children of Styx and Pallas. The group’s privileged place beside Zeus expresses the idea that victory, zeal, force and strength are inseparable from divine kingship.
In Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound, Kratos appears as a harsh enforcer of Zeus’s order, making him particularly useful in play when divine authority becomes uncompromising.
Worship in the Living World
Kratos attracts rulers, guards, military officers and people responsible for holding a line when retreat would be disastrous. His cult praises endurance and command but fears the point at which strength forgets restraint.
Pantheon Plane: The Olympian Glades
Kratos stands close to Zeus in the Olympian Glades and is often encountered as a herald of an order already decided. He rarely claims a separate realm because proximity to sovereignty is itself his office.
What Is Kratos Doing Now?
Three rival monarchs have each received the same bronze sceptre in a dream and awakened convinced Zeus has granted them unquestionable authority.
Kratos knows only one of the visions came from Olympus. He is searching for the power that forged the other two dreams before the rival courts turn counterfeit sovereignty into war.
