Legendary Resistance (4/Day). If Dionysus fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

Lord of Altered States. Dionysus is immune to magical effects that would alter his emotions, intoxicate him or impose madness unless he chooses to be affected. He can identify whether an altered mental state is caused by poison, magic, fear, grief or divine influence.

Festival Without Walls. Allies of Dionysus within 60 feet have advantage on saving throws against being Frightened or Restrained and can move through allied spaces without extra movement.

Multiattack. Dionysus makes three Thyrsus attacks: +17 to hit, reach 15 ft.; 27 (4d8 + 9) bludgeoning plus 22 (4d10) psychic damage.

Ecstatic Chorus (Recharge 5–6). Creatures of Dionysus’s choice within 120 feet make a DC 26 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, Dionysus chooses whether each creature becomes Charmed, Frightened or Incapacitated with laughter and visions until the end of its next turn. On a success, it is immune to this use of Ecstatic Chorus.

Vines of the Procession (1/Day). For 1 minute, magical vines fill a 120-foot radius. Hostile creatures treat the area as difficult terrain and must succeed on a DC 26 Strength saving throw when they start their turn there or become Restrained until the start of their next turn. Allies may ignore the vines.

Mythic Trait — The Mask Changes. The first time Dionysus is reduced to 0 hit points, he instead regains 295 hit points, changes appearance completely and immediately ends all conditions on himself. Creatures within 120 feet must succeed on a DC 26 Wisdom saving throw or be unable to distinguish friend from foe until the end of their next turn.

Lord of Revels (Su). Dionysus can create or purify wine at will and may use greater heroism, confusion and irresistible dance three times per day each.

Living Vines (Su). Three times per day Dionysus may fill a 120-foot radius with animated vines for 10 rounds. The area functions as entangle against enemies while allies move normally.

Appropriate salient divine abilities include Alter Reality, Divine Inspiration, Divine Fast Healing, Extra Domain and Shapechange.

Ecstatic Dominion. Within his divine aura, Dionysus knows when intoxication, magical compulsion or fear is suppressing a creature’s true intentions and may intensify or end non-divine emotion effects.

Wine and Transformation

Wine is Dionysus’s most famous gift because it changes a person without replacing them. It can soften fear, expose hidden feeling, encourage fellowship or destroy judgement. That ambiguity is central to his divinity.

His cult therefore treats intoxication as a threshold, not an automatic virtue. A revel can be sacred, foolish, dangerous or all three at once.

Theatre, Masks and Identity

Theatre belongs naturally to Dionysus because a mask allows a mortal to become someone else without ceasing to be themselves. Actors, choruses and audiences cross identity boundaries together and return changed by what they have seen.

For a Games Master, Dionysian theatre is an excellent place for prophecy, possession, political satire and supernatural roles that refuse to end when the performance does.

Ecstasy and Sacred Madness

Dionysian ecstasy can free people from rigid social roles, but myth repeatedly warns that denied or uncontrolled divine frenzy is dangerous. Kings who insist that every experience must submit to ordinary civic authority often discover that Dionysus is especially interested in them.

Worship in the Living World

Winemakers, actors, musicians, travellers, outsiders and people seeking release from oppressive roles honour Dionysus. Festivals combine procession, performance, drinking, music and temporary reversals of ordinary social expectations.

His priests understand that a festival still needs a road home. Responsible cults distinguish sacred release from simple predation or cruelty committed under cover of revelry.

What Is Dionysus Doing Now?

Travelling theatre companies across the Mediterranean have begun receiving the same unnamed play. Every script has different dialogue, but the final scene is identical: the audience rises, puts on masks left beneath their seats and walks out of the theatre without speaking.

Dionysus has attended three performances in disguise. He says the play is not his, but whoever wrote it understands his mysteries well enough to make that distinction worrying.

Domain Spells and Divine Gifts

Divine Relic — The Mask of the Last Chorus

The Mask of the Last Chorus is an original game relic whose expression changes with the wearer’s mood. The wearer has advantage on Performance checks and saving throws against fear.

Once per week, the wearer can assume the appearance and voice of any humanoid they have seen perform for at least 1 minute. The change lasts until dawn and cannot be detected by mundane observation.
