Hobistan is a hobgoblin confederacy north of the Tian Shan on the border of Central and East Asia. It emerged amid the fragmentation of older steppe states but is not one of the four recognised orc successor powers and is not a possession of the Ninefold Dominion.

Its power grew around the Ili River from hobgoblin clan-hosts, caravan interests, fortified settlements and displaced military households. Foreign chroniclers sometimes fold it into older Chagatai geography, but its rulers claim their own confederate authority rather than the inheritance of Mhurak Stone-Blood.

Trade with China makes several Hobistan rulers wealthy, while civil war, rival khans and pressure from the human Timurid world repeatedly destabilise the confederacy. Independence-minded rulers maintain competing domains around routes leading toward Kashgar, Turfan and the Ili valley.
