Appearance: Alven manifest in various heights, from ethereal and tiny to statuesque. Clothed in garments often depicted as white, they exude an otherworldly aura, blending seamlessly with their watery habitats. Their eyes sparkle with an ancient wisdom, reflecting the magic that courses through their essence.

Behavior: Flirtatious and inviting, Alven revel in the enchantment of the natural world. They perform mesmerizing witchcraft, drawing in those who dare to witness their rituals. Despite their mischievous nature, they hold a certain fascination for humans, allowing them to join in forest dances and songs under the moonlit sky. Pranksters by nature, they play tricks like leading wanderers astray or riding on their backs, leaving an imprint of whimsy and mystery.

Habitat: These elusive beings call the hills their home, dwelling within hidden realms known as “Venusbergen,” “Alvinnenheuvels,” “Alvenheuvels,” and “Elfenheuvelen.” Their connection to bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers, and ponds, is profound, with the sacred River Elbe holding a special place in their lore.

Modus Operandi: Alven navigate their world by riding bubbles, transporting themselves gracefully with an air of magic. They materialize under the full moon, forming hordes that dance and frolic in the moonlight reflected on the water’s surface. While generally benevolent, they unleash their pranks upon those who desecrate their sacred spaces or disturb the tranquility of their habitats.

Motivation: Driven by a deep affinity for nature, Alven are stewards of the land, ensuring the balance between the ethereal and the earthly. They seek to preserve the sanctity of their homes and forge connections with the natural world. Motivated by a delicate harmony, they may occasionally intervene in the affairs of humans, emphasizing the importance of respect and reverence for the environment.

Actions

Bubble Travel. The alven envelops itself in a magical bubble, granting it the ability to fly at a speed of 40 feet for 1 minute. The bubble can move over water surfaces without impediment.

Moonlit Dance (Recharge 5-6). It releases a burst of enchanting moonlight in a 20-foot radius. Creatures within the area must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed for 1 minute. Charmed creatures can repeat the saving throw at the end of their turns, ending the effect on a success.

Prankish Illusion. It creates illusory duplicates of itself, making it appear in up to three additional places within 30 feet. Attackers must roll a d4 to determine which image is real. If the real alven is hit, the illusion dissipates. The illusions last for 1 minute or until dismissed by the alven.

Legendary Actions

The alven can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The alven regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  1. Moonlit Dart. It makes a ranged spell attack against a creature within 60 feet, dealing 2d6 radiant damage on a hit.
  2. Ethereal Step. The alven teleports up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see.
  3. Prankish Mirage (Costs 2 Actions). The alven creates an illusory duplicate of itself, making it appear in a location within 30 feet. The illusion lasts for 1 minute or until dismissed by the alven.

On this Thread

Alvens have bodies that are so light that they are almost invisible. They are not winged faeries but can travel through the air by becoming encased in a water bubble.

Occasionally they will show themselves while wearing the skins of otters. Alven are peaceful creatures, and generally good-natured. Natural creatures do not harm them, although they prefer to live in water enclosures where there are no predatory fish, but they generally leave an area once humanoids begin to encroach on it.

They cherish night-blooming plants and will harm any human who attempts to pick or destroy them.

Combat

Alven flee at the first sign of combat.

Light Body Alven can walk on water, as they are not heavy enough to sink at all into it, though they remain somewhat at the mercy of the current. They are almost invisible, and get a +20 racial bonus to Hide checks

Bubble Flight An alven may magically call up a bubble to encase their body from any amount of water large enough to create such a bubble. Within the bubble, they may Fly at a speed of 5Ā’, but winds greater than a gentle breeze may prove problematic for the alven to Fly in.
