Behavior: A creature of both beauty and pragmatism, the Ostrich is known for its swift movements and communal living. In groups, they display a social harmony, utilizing their keen senses to detect threats. When faced with danger, their instinctive response is to rely on their incredible speed, reaching up to 45 miles per hour.
Habitat: Thriving in the expansive grasslands and semi-arid regions of Africa, the Ostrich claims its territory on the open savannas. Well-adapted to varying conditions, they can endure both scorching temperatures and colder nights. Their nomadic nature leads them to wander in search of food and suitable nesting grounds.
Modus Operandi: While typically peaceful, the it’s primary mode of defense is its remarkable speed. When confronted by predators, it relies on swift sprints to outpace the threat. In times of necessity, their powerful legs serve as formidable weapons, capable of delivering forceful kicks to deter would-be assailants.
Motivation: The Ostrich is motivated by the perpetual pursuit of sustenance and the preservation of its lineage. Mating rituals involve captivating displays of dancing and plumage, emphasizing the desire to secure a mate. While primarily driven by survival instincts, their communal nature also highlights the importance of social bonds within the flock.

An ostrich can hide in plain sight as a bush or shrub by crouching down and concealing its head and legs. It makes a Stealth check as normal, but anyone who observes it from within 30 feet automatically sees through the ruse.

Adult female ostriches average 6 feet tall and weigh about 220 pounds, with males averaging 7 to 9 feet and 250 pounds. Although they are likely to flee from predators when they can, ostriches are more than willing to stand and fight when trapped or defending their chicks; they’re known to kick even lions to death in defense of their young.
A trained ostrich has a market price of 80 gp, whereas an egg is worth 25 gp. Because it’s bipedal, an ostrich requires an exotic saddle.

An ostrich can be taken as an animal companion by a druid. An ostrich companion possesses the following base statistics.
