Yowie, Warden of the Untamed Bush

A rare and elusive giant of the Australian wilderness, the Yowie commands the forests with its immense strength and presence. Standing over human height, it blends stealth, intelligence, and raw power, making it both a formidable hunter and an enigmatic guardian of its domain.
Appearance:
The Yowie stands roughly 10–13 feet tall, with long, muscular limbs and a broad, powerful frame. Its body is covered in thick, dark fur streaked with grey in older individuals. A wide, flat face with deep-set amber eyes, flared nostrils, and a strong jaw conveys both intelligence and primal strength. Large, clawed hands allow for climbing, grasping, and striking with devastating force. Its sheer size and imposing presence make it an unmistakable apex of the bush.
Behaviour:
Yowies are territorial and usually solitary, though small family groups have been observed. They are mostly nocturnal, moving quietly through dense bushlands while avoiding humans whenever possible. When threatened, they display aggressive posturing, including roaring, stomping, and charging, but prefer intimidation over direct confrontation. Highly intelligent and curious, they sometimes linger near human activity, observing or investigating before retreating.
Habitat:
Yowies inhabit deep forests, rugged bushlands, and remote mountain regions across Australia, favoring areas with heavy canopy, rocky terrain, and abundant prey. They are agile climbers and adept at navigating rivers and cliffs, making them well-adapted to Australia’s harsh and diverse landscapes.
Modus Operandi:
Primarily ambush predators, Yowies rely on stealth, height, and brute strength. They hunt mammals, birds, and occasionally livestock, striking quickly and retreating into cover. In combat, they favor grapples, throws, and crushing blows, using their massive arms and claws rather than weapons. Vocalizations and intimidating displays often precede physical action.
Motivation:
Driven by survival instincts, territoriality, and curiosity, Yowies defend their home and hunt efficiently. While generally avoiding unnecessary conflict, they are capable of extreme ferocity when threatened, demonstrating both instinctual cunning and protective intelligence.

Multiattack. The Yowie makes two Slam attacks, or one Slam attack and one Boulder Hurl.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.
Hit: 21 (3d8 + 7) bludgeoning damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Hit: 28 (4d10 + 7) bludgeoning damage. The target must succeed on a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw or be restrained beneath rubble (escape DC 18).
Thunderous Roar (Recharge 5–6). Each creature of the Yowie’s choice within 30 feet that can hear it must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

- Ground Shudder (Costs 2 Actions). The ground within 15 feet of the Yowie becomes difficult terrain until the end of its next turn.
Lore
Yowies are ancient, native giants of Australia’s wild places, shaped by the land rather than magic. They serve as living boundaries between civilisation and untamed nature, tolerating respectful travellers while violently repelling those who despoil their territory. Massive footprints, broken trees, and deep, echoing roars are the final warnings before a Yowie makes itself known.

DESCRIPTION
Yowies are towering, fur-covered giants native to Australia’s most remote wilderness. Neither magical nor cursed, they are ancient creatures shaped by isolation and the harsh demands of the land. Deeply territorial and highly intelligent, Yowies act as living wardens of their domain, tolerating respectful travelers but responding with overwhelming force to those who despoil sacred ground.
Their presence is marked by shattered trees, massive footprints near water sources, and low, resonant roars echoing through valleys—warnings that the land itself is watching.

Mere skeletal remains are all that is left of the rancher’s herd. The nightmare creature has come again to feed, eyes glowing in the dark, tail thrashing behind it and a long, sinuous tongue slipping in and out of its mouth, tasting the air for its next kill.
Yowie are the plague of any who raise cattle for a living. Their hunger is nigh-insatiable as the stride through warm plains, crushing anything foolish enough to get in their way. Their heads and tails are clearly reptilian, looking somewhat similar to a dark green skin’s. Their bodies are much like those of an overly large ant, sharing the same, right green color but covered in thick scales like a lizard’s. their eyes and tongues are an eerie blood red. The whole creature is some 20 ft. long.
