Using Them in Play

These are Pathfinder 1e masterwork-quality restraints made of mithral, not a magic item. They can restrain a Medium creature; a creature trying to slip out uses Escape Artist DC 35, while snapping the bindings requires a DC 30 Strength check. The listed 1,000 gp buys the manacles, with an ordinary lock priced separately. A jailer might choose them for a captured lycanthrope because they are harder to break, but they do not automatically suppress shapechanging or supernatural abilities. Check the creature’s own rules before deciding what a change of shape means for the fit.

For an escape scene, establish who holds the key, whether the lock can be reached, and how much noise a failed attempt will make. A prisoner might have a better chance of stealing the key or bargaining with a guard than forcing the metal apart. For a cheaper baseline, compare standard and masterwork manacles, or browse the locks, keys and restraints equipment. These Pathfinder statistics should not be applied unchanged to other RPG editions.
