Sexist Settlement

A sexist settlement builds unequal treatment into law, custom or both. One sex is denied rights that others take for granted, and the imbalance shapes property, trade, testimony, inheritance, public office and everyday safety.

Legacy Settlement Rules

Under the legacy settlement-quality rules, this quality decreases Society by 2. The original rule also limits the oppressed group’s ability to make significant purchases and describes widespread legal and social discrimination.

What Adventurers Notice

• Contracts or property rights may be restricted.
• Officials may refuse to recognise testimony or authority from the oppressed group.
• Local merchants may require an intermediary for major purchases.
• Custom can be as restrictive as written law even where the law is vague.

Using It in Play

This quality should create social and legal obstacles rather than simply serving as background colour. A party may need a local patron, forged paperwork, leverage over an official or help from residents already resisting the system.

Not every inhabitant needs to support the discrimination. Families, guilds, rulers, rebels and neighbouring communities can disagree sharply over the settlement’s laws, creating alliances and conflicts for adventurers to navigate.
