As a character, Calypso fears the loneliness that her eternal life has bestowed upon her. Her immortality, while a gift, has become a burden over the centuries. The endless days and nights on her secluded island have left her yearning for companionship. She longs for genuine connections, something more profound than the passing ships and lost sailors who occasionally find their way to her shores.

Calypso’s existence is driven by a profound sense of longing. She harbors a desire to break free from the isolation that has defined her life. Her heart, though timeless, craves love and genuine connection. She seeks to find meaning in the lives of the mortals who briefly cross her path, hoping to fill the void left by her solitude.

In the vast tapestry of Greek mythology, Calypso stands as a symbol of desire, temptation, and the enduring quest for connection in the face of eternity. Her story is a reflection of the human condition, where even the immortal can be touched by the profound yearning for something more.

Special Traits

Amphibious. Calypso can breathe both air and water.

Innate Spellcasting. Calypso’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17). She can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

  • At will: Charm Person, Control Water, Fog Cloud, Mage Hand, Minor Illusion, Mending
  • 3/day each: Dominate Person, Gaseous Form, Major Image, Water Walk
  • 1/day each: Dominate Monster, Mirage Arcane, Plane Shift, Water Breathing

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Calypso fails a saving throw, she can choose to succeed instead.

Siren’s Song. She can use a bonus action to sing a hauntingly beautiful song. All creatures within 60 feet that can hear the song must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed until the end of their next turn. If a creature’s saving throw is successful, the creature is immune to Calypso’s song for the next 24 hours. Creatures that can’t be charmed are immune to this effect.

Water Manipulation. Calypso can cast Control Water at will without expending a spell slot. The spell is cast as if using a 5th-level slot.

Eternal Beauty. Calypso’s ageless beauty is a bewitching sight. Creatures that can see her must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by her beauty for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to Calypso’s beauty for the next 24 hours.

Actions

Multiattack. Calypso makes two melee attacks or uses her Water Jet and makes one melee attack.

  • Dagger. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d4 + 4) piercing damage.
  • Water Jet. Ranged Spell Attack: +7 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 27 (6d8) cold damage.
  • Enthralling Gaze (Recharge 5-6). Calypso targets one creature she can see within 30 feet of her. If the target can see her, the target must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw against this magic or be charmed by Calypso until the end of its next turn. The charmed target is stunned and has a speed of 0. If Calypso moves more than 60 feet away from the target, the effect ends. If the target successfully saves against the effect, or if the effect ends for it, the target is immune to Calypso’s gaze for the next 24 hours.

Reactions

Mystic Deflection. When Calypso is targeted by a ranged spell attack, she can use her reaction to deflect the attack, causing it to miss.

Legendary Actions

Calypso can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Calypso regains spent legendary actions at the start of her turn.

  • Melee Attack. Calypso makes one dagger attack.
  • Water Jet (Costs 2 Actions). Calypso uses her Water Jet.
  • Lure of the Abyss (Costs 3 Actions). Calypso sings a haunting melody. All creatures within 60 feet that can hear her must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed until the end of their next turn.

Equipment

Dagger of the Deep. A finely crafted dagger that shimmers with an aquatic blue sheen. Functions as a +1 dagger and deals an additional 1d6 cold damage on a hit. It is etched with symbols of the sea.

Necklace of Ogygia. A beautiful necklace made of sapphires and pearls, said to be a gift from the ocean itself. It grants Calypso the ability to breathe underwater and swim at her normal speed.

Enchanted Conch Shell. A small conch shell that, when blown, produces hauntingly beautiful music. When used, it casts Control Water without expending a spell slot.

Cloak of Eternal Beauty. A silvery cloak that shimmers like moonlight on water. Grants Calypso advantage on saving throws against being charmed and resistant to cold damage.

Legendary Lair Actions

Calypso can take lair actions on initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties). She can use only one lair action per turn and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Calypso regains expended lair actions at the start of her turn.

  • Sea’s Embrace. Calypso calls forth a tidal wave, creating a 30-foot cone of water in a direction she chooses. Creatures in that area must succeed on a DC 17 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone and take 27 (6d8) bludgeoning damage.
  • Siren’s Lullaby. Calypso’s enchanting song echoes through her lair. All creatures in the lair, except Calypso, must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed until the end of their next turn.
  • Abyssal Surge. Calypso commands the waters to aid her. She can cast Control Water without expending a spell slot.
