Reykjavík is the capital and largest city of Iceland, although still not much bigger than a large town, and one of the worlds poorest cities. It was the location of the first permanent settlement in Iceland. Founded as a trading town it has grown into a regional center of commerce despite recent famine and diseases decimating its population.
