Improved Low-Light Vision — D&D 3.5e Epic Feat

Improved Low-Light Vision is a D&D 3.5e epic feat that extends a creature’s existing low-light vision. It helps scouts and other characters make use of weak illumination at greater distances, but it does not grant darkvision or let them see in complete darkness.

D&D 3.5e — Published Epic Feat

At a Glance: Requires low-light vision. One selection doubles its effective range. Further selections stack according to the epic rules; low-light vision from temporary magic items or nonpermanent magical effects does not stack with this feat.

  • Prerequisite Low-Light Vision.
  • Benefit The range of your Low-Light Vision doubles. This feat does not stack with Low-Light Vision granted by magic items or nonpermanent magical effects.
  • Special You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects stack. Remember that two doublings equals a tripling, and so on.

How Multiple Selections Work

Take a light source whose usual useful distance for that creature is represented by one unit. With one selection of Improved Low-Light Vision, that becomes two units. With two selections, it becomes three; with three, four. That follows the epic rule’s instruction that two doublings equal a tripling, rather than multiplying the full distance by two each time.

For instance, if the effective sight distance under the applicable lighting rules were 30 feet before taking the feat, one selection would make it 60 feet and two selections 90 feet. This is an illustration of the feat’s stacking rule, not a fixed universal sight distance. The actual range still depends on the lighting and the creature’s existing vision.
