Choose a school of magic.
Benefit: Add +1 to the Difficulty Class for all saving throws against spells from the
school of magic you select.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new school of magic.
How Spell Focus Works
Spell Focus increases the saving throw Difficulty Class of spells from one chosen school of magic by +1. The bonus matters only when a spell from that school actually allows a saving throw; a spell with no saving throw gains no benefit from the feat.
Choosing a School
- Frequent save-based spells: choose a school that contains spells your character casts often and that regularly force saving throws.
- Specialist themes: characters built around one magical discipline can use Spell Focus to reinforce that identity mechanically.
- Higher-level feat chains: Spell Focus is commonly the starting point for stronger school-specific feat options.
Spell Focus Example
If a spell from the chosen school would normally have a saving throw DC of 17, Spell Focus raises that DC to 18. A spell from another school remains unchanged. Taking Spell Focus again does not increase the same school to +2; the new selection must apply to a different school.
See the Feats index for additional spellcasting and metamagic options.
