Priestly Vestments
Priestly vestments are ceremonial garments worn while conducting rites, receiving petitioners, leading festivals or representing a temple or cult in public. They are designed to display sacred office rather than to survive the wear of ordinary adventuring.
Appearance
Vestments vary enormously by deity and region. They may include layered robes, ritual sashes, decorated mantles, masks, crowns, belts, embroidered panels, animal motifs, sacred colours, jewellery or symbols associated with the god being served.
Social Meaning
In the right place, recognised vestments can identify a priest’s office immediately. They may grant access to ceremonies, mark rank within a temple or make it clear which divine power a traveller represents. In hostile territory, that same visibility can be dangerous.
Adventuring Limitations
Ceremonial clothing is not armour and is rarely suited to mud, climbing, combat or long marches. Priests who travel commonly keep formal vestments packed away until they are needed, using harder-wearing clothing on the road.
Adventure Use
Vestments can establish identity, disguise, rank or allegiance. Stolen or counterfeit garments may get someone through a gate, but knowledgeable priests can notice incorrect symbols, colours, knots or ritual details.
Source
This entry retains the classic adventuring-equipment role of ceremonial priestly clothing while presenting it in terms suitable for the world’s many non-Abrahamic faiths.
